63 Things You'll Understand if You Were Born in the 90's
There are several things in life that you'll only understand if you born in the 1990's. Now, you might well have been born in the 80's but grew up in the 90's, but you can come along and enjoy the ride with all us 90's kids. Either way, this post is designed to make you feel some nostalgia and (hopefully) put a smile on your face when you think back to a memory you have. I'm guaranteed to have missed something, so feel free to leave your childhood memories in the comment section below! Right, shall we get on with it? I think we should :)
- Using Paint and playing the pinball machine game when your 5 minutes on dial-up Internet was up
- Using dial-up Internet while your parents complain that they can't use the telephone...whoops - I always thought I'd got away with that one
- Being an OHP monitor
- Mastering texting on a Nokia phone, with all correspondence made up of a mixture of numbers and letters (yes m8)
- Playing snake on your mum's mobile
- Carrying around a personal CD player, headphones and a stack of CDs wherever you went
- Only having five television channels to choose from
- Enjoying MySpace before Facebook took over
- Renting your videos and videos games from Blockbuster on a Saturday night
- Trying to master downloading music onto your super cool mp3 player
- Playing Simpson's Hit & Run and the Sims on the PlayStation 2, but filling up all of your 8mb memory cards
- Shoving floppy discs into the computer tower
- Having to wind up the tape in your cassettes with a pencil
- Not being able to watch your favourite film without having to rewind the whole video... all the way back to the beginning...which always took forever
- The Busted vs McFly fan rivalry
- Flashing trainers and jelly shoes
- Trainers with frilly socks
- Polly Pockets
- Groovy Chick
- The original BopIt
- Top Trumps
- Beyblades
- Playing with K-Nex at break time if it was raining outside - and there was always one kid that was the K-Nex master
- Going to the library to do your homework because the Internet was so slow
- When you'd go for a meal with your family and come out smelling like cigarette smoke
- Sequined bootleg jeans
- Wearing double denim to the school disco
- Knowing all the moves to the Macarena, 5,6,7,8, Tragedy, the Ketchup Song, the Cheeky Girls and more!
- Playing a cassette tape in the car and having it jump every time you go over a speed bump
- Pink wafers, cherryade, musical chairs and pass the parcel at every birthday party
- Going to the cinema to watch the first few Harry Potter films
- Only having one computer in each classroom, with no IT suite/room anywhere else in the school
- Scrunchies!
- 10p mixes from the local newsagents
- Pokemon cards
- Football cards
- Gameboys (and blowing on the cartridges to make them play)
- Tamagotchi
- When Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake used to date
- When NSYNC were the best band ever
- Beanie Babies
- Play Days on kid's TV
- Art Attack
- The Very Hungry Caterpillar
- Circling Christmas presents in the Argos catalogue
- Sunny D (before they made it healthy)
- Smelly gel pens (popcorn scent was my fave!)
- An origami chatterbox
- Cat's Cradle
- Skipping with ropes, either on your own or in groups
- Your friend's pretending they could read your palm
- Plating your friend's hair an getting told off by the teacher for it
- Having a special box inside your actual lunchbox just for your Pringles
- Playing with Barbie and Action Men (I always made Action Man Barbie's boyfriend, and so did quite a few of my friends, haha)
- Doing the monkey bars across a climbing frame
- Scraping your knees on concrete floors if you fell over at school
- Being given chalk so you can draw out a hopscotch to hop around
- Sports days and getting an orange wedge at the end
- Having a McDonald's birthday party with Ronald McDonald (the creepy bugger) himself and the infamous Ham Burglar
- Bananas in Pyjamas are coming down in pairs!
- When Noddy's head looked like a boiled egg and the goblins shared the s**t out of me
- Always being in awe at how shiny Postman Pat's van and Fireman Sam's truck was
- Turkey Twizzlers were AMAZING!
