6 Hacks for an Easier Early Morning

Early mornings are rubbish, I am not at all a morning person and so I find it so difficult to get out of bed and be productive in the morning. However, it's just something which has to be done and there's no escaping it! So, here are a few things I do to try and make early mornings a little easier to deal with :)

1. Don't hit 'snooze'!

We're all guilty of doing this at one point or another, but it's definitely more productive to just get up when the alarm goes off instead of spending that extra five minutes in bed. In fact, a small amount of additional time in bed really doesn't benefit you in any way - so basically, you're subconsciously inconveniencing yourself for absolutely no reason whatsoever. When the alarm goes off, get up and get moving - you'l thank me later!

2. Drink water, get some protein & avoid sugar

Drinking water and getting some protein down you will all help to make you feel more awake. Eating a high-protein breakfast with a glass of water will also help to suppress your appetite, meaning you'll go longer before having to eat lunch which, in turn, will make you feel less distracted at work, for example. I find I can't concentrate at work if I'm starving hungry, so personally, this hack does me good.

3. Have a list & tick things off it

Whether you have a physical checklist written down or have a mental one in your head, it can be incredibly useful for our state of minds to tick things off our list that needed doing. From remembering to buy bread to being prepared for a meeting, your life will feel much more organised with the help of a simple, realistic daily checklist. Keep in mind that your list should also be achievable or you may end up being ticked off with yourself for not meeting all your goals, having the opposite effect.

4. Stay away from your phone

I find my mobile phone to be quite the distraction in the morning. From news bulletins to the odd phone call, nothing is worse than being pulled away from something you really need to do by a certain time. This is a massive pet peeve of mine when trying to get ready to leave the house. I don't like to rush, and I have a tried and tested routine which gives me enough time to do everything I need to do before leaving the house at a reasonable time. When this routine is compromised, I start to feel a little more stressed - something which isn't at all helpful or constructive early in the morning.

5. Clear your mind for the day ahead

Many people like to do yoga or another form of exercise in the morning in order to clear their heads for the day. Meditation also works for many, but I like to do Morning Pages. If you aren't sure what that is or what it entails, have a read of this blog post. It takes no more than 10 minutes a day and you can literally brain dump anything you want! I find it to be quite a healing, productive process, clearing my head of distracting thoughts so I can do my job properly by the time I reach the office.

6. Prepare the night before

Whether you're laying out an outfit, meal prepping or packing a bag with important stuff, do it all the night before. This way, you're a lot less likely to forget things which may be important, like homework, for example. It will also save time, meaning you can, naturally, have a little more time in bed - set your alarm accordingly, and remember...don't hit 'snooze'!

  1. I had a lot of trouble waking up early. I used to hit snooze a lot and I couldn't stay away from my phone. Now when I have a to do list it's so much easier not to reach for a phone every 5 minutes!

    1. Hi there,

      Thanks for your comment :)

I totally agree, having a list is so beneficial I find. It's a great distraction from other things, especially technology. I'm glad you enjoyed the post, I hope to see you around here again :)
