3 Tips to Help Your Face Makeup Last All Day Long

Face makeup can be tricky to get right when it comes to durability. I've lost count of the amount of foundations, concealers and blushers I've trialled over the years that have worn incredibly badly or, simply, haven't withstood the test of time (which is usually just a few hours).

Lipstick, for example, can be reapplied as many times as you wish throughout the course of your day, face makeup on the other hand is a completely different ball game.

As a result, I thought I'd share with you a few things I've learnt when it comes to ensuring that makeup bases and finishes stay intact, regardless of when you applied it. Now, I can tell you're all itching to know...so let's get into it!

1. A good primer is your new best friend

There will always be great primers on the market no matter what your budget may be. I've often found that low-mid range priced products are just as good as their higher priced counterparts, if not better. Take advantage of this and make sure you do some research into the best primers you can get for your money.

I know what you're thinking; "primers really don't make that much of a difference, so what's the point?". I used to think the same until I started using one. I actually does make all the difference, despite how cynical you may be about it all. I've genuinely seen a difference in the longevity of both my concealer and my foundation. In fact, I've even realised that I don't need as much of the stuff when I've got a great primer as a base.

Primers are designed to smooth off the skin, ensuring your makeup has an even surface on which to settle and latch on to, hence why it's high unlikely that you'll experience a shift in the foundation you've applied. You'll also find that it lasts a considerable amount of time on the face in comparison to when it's applied without a primer - give it a try and you'll totally understand where it is I'm coming from.

It's also worth noting that translucent primers often give the best results, so opt for one of those to begin with, especially if you've not used a primer before or are looking reawaken your love for this absolute life saver of a makeup product!

2. Apply your concealer after the foundation

I know how this sounds, but please trust me on this one, you won't be disappointed! As silly as this sounds, it really does make a difference when it comes to the durability of your face makeup. Basically, by applying the concealer after the foundation, you'll need to apply less product.

This is great for both your bank balance (because you'll not need to replace your concealer as often) and the longevity of your face makeup. It means that thinner layers are applied, thus making it more likely that your makeup will last longer on the skin.

You'll be able to purchase great full-coverage concealers should it be something you're self-conscious about. But it's important to remember that applying the concealer after the foundation won't have much of an impact when it comes to the coverage you get. In fact, it shouldn't make the slightest bit of difference with the right products, so give this trick a go :)

3. Dust your face with setting powder before applying other powder makeup products

I've heard of a quite a few people applying setting powder after the rest of their makeup has been applied. However, it's actually meant to be dusted over all of your liquid makeup - something only a few people are aware of. The reason for this is simple; it makes your base last even longer. All other powder products should be applied on top of your setting powder...who knew?!

Products that should be applied after your setting powder are as follows:

*Blusher
*Bronzer
*Highlighter
*Eyebrow powder
*Eyeshadow

If you have a liquid blusher or highlighter, then swipe that over the cheeks and blend, after this, you can dust the setting powder lightly over your face. This ensures that any liquid products are as long-wearing as possible, so it's well worth investing in a good setting powder. Again, do some research into this so that you aren't actually wasting money in the long run!
