How to Get the Most Out of Your At-Home Workout

Working out at home has become somewhat of a necessity since the gyms and leisure centres closed back in March, but even six months later, now they're open again, home workouts are more popular than ever before.

There are still many people out there who don't feel safe visiting a gym in the current situation, and that's understandable, so to stay active during these times, most of us are looking to maintain our fitness levels through home workout regimes - myself included.

So in a bid to help those of you who are still turning to at-home fitness for the time being, I thought I'd share with you exactly how to get the most out of the workout you've chosen to do within the walls of your own house. Just because the gyms are shut doesn't mean to say that we can't get a quality workout in at home!

Vary it as much as possible

Doing different workouts that focus on a variety of different body parts will, not only tone up every inch of your body, but, it'll also help to keep you on a motivated path. You'll be far more likely to keep the workouts up if you change them up on a regular basis.

It can be easy to become bored of the at-home workouts we do, especially if you're following a DVD, but I think these are a thing of the past. There are millions of YouTube videos out there that'll help you to vary your workouts, together with live videos, either on Facebook or Instagram, that'll keep you on your toes.

The best thing about those sorts of videos is that they're often free of charge, so why not give them a go a few times a month. Having millions of videos to choose from at the touch of a button, all without paying a single penny? It's no brainer in my opinion!

Use some home, specialist programmes - free of charge

If your sole goal is to get a bigger bum, then focus on specialist workouts that focus only the bum. This is the same for any part of the body, making it easier for you to achieve the results you've always wanted and all without stepping foot in a gym.

Like I've already said, YouTube is perfect for these types of videos. Want to work on your abs? Search for it on YouTube. Want to work on your thighs? Search for it on YouTube...you get the idea! The best part about that is, again, it's all free.

But, if you want to invest the money in something that's more tailored to you, then do some research and price up some options. It might be that buying a state-of-the-art static bike with a built-in fitness programme is something you think you'd really benefit from - it really is up to you and your personal goals.

Track your progress

Apps such as Strava really help to track your progress when it comes to online workouts. Many people think apps like Strava are solely for those who run or cycle - it's just not the case. You can even track weight training using the Strava app, so don't let that put you off!

It's even easier to track your progress with a something like a FitBit or Apple Watch, as they often claim to be a little more accurate. If venturing outside your house to go for a run or a cycle is out of the question, then don't worry! Doing an at-home workout is just as easy to track and all the more satisfying when you start to see gradual improvements - what's not to love?

Incorporate the stairs

Stairs are super underrated when it comes to exercise equipment. You don't need fancy pants technology or the latest fitness equipment to get in a thigh or butt workout - you've got some built-in equipment at home just waiting to be stomped all over.

Walking up and down the stairs a few times is great for cardio, as it'll get the heart pumping, but it'll also build up some muscle in areas such as the calves, thighs and buttocks. Even at work, you should opt to take the stairs as opposed to using the lift - it's likely you'll see an improvement in your fitness in a pretty short amount of time by making small, lifestyle changes, such as taking the stairs wherever possible.

Buy some inexpensive equipment

For the most part, working out at home is basically free, but there will come a time where you'll want to invest a small amount of money in the cause. Buying small, inexpensive bits and pieces to help get the most out of your workout will benefit you immensely in the long run.

Buying equipment such as yoga mats, light weights, pull-up bars and even massage rollers will all help to enhance your workouts at home. You'd be surprised by how much some of the aforementioned bits and bobs will help when it comes to improving your strength and fitness and they can all be purchased at low prices on market places such as Amazon - so, you won't have to leave the house at all!
