Eco-Friendly Swaps You Can Make Around Your House

Being environmentally-friendly has become very important, especially in this day and age. So much so, that it's a very popular topic in the realms of blogging and raising awareness of the climate change issue, which I think is really beneficial to the cause.

I've tried to make a fair few changes in my life that are better for the environment, from sustainable shopping to just generally living a more sustainable life, I've touched on this topic a lot in the last eight years of being in the blogging world, and I'm super happy that I wrote those blog posts. If you're interested in reading those articles, I'll leave the links to those below for you :)

5 Ways to Shop More Sustainably

Anyway, this is just another blog post promoting the ways you can be more environmentally-friendly, but this time, specific to your own home, whether it's your own house or if you're renting. So without further ado, let's get into it!

An eco-friendly | Bathroom

There are loads of things in your bathroom that you'll be able to immediately swap for an environmentally-friendly alternative. From bamboo toothbrushes to bio-degradable facial wipes, I can guarantee that you'll find something to change out for an eco-friendly option:
  • Use a bamboo toothbrush
  • Use an eco-friendly toothpaste
  • Use homemade products, such as face masks and lip scrubs
  • Swap facial scrubs containing microbeads for ones that use almond or sugar alternatives
  • Try solid shampoos as opposed to bottled ones
  • Use plastic-free, roll-on deodorant instead of an aerosol or spray can
  • Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth

An eco-friendly | Kitchen

When it comes to an eco-friendly kitchen, it more comes down to where our food has come from together with single-use plastics, such as reusable coffee mugs or Tupperware instead of cling film etc. So here's a list of the quick and easy swaps you can make in your kitchen to be more environmentally-friendly:
  • Buy in bulk if you can
  • Go for products that have been dubbed as 'naked'
  • Visit small, independent shops where you can fill up your own jars with produce, like pasta and rice
  • Try and limit the amount of meat you eat in a week, maybe try a meat-free Monday?
  • Don't waste the food you buy, try and find a use for everything wherever possible
  • Buy locally and support farm shops and independent green grocers, bakeries and butchers

An eco-friendly | Bedroom

You might not think that there's much you can do to make your bedroom more eco-friendly, but you'd be surprised. Basically, it all starts with the fashion you buy, you should do some research on brands that are sustainable or that claim to be vegan or 'naked' (much like food). If you scroll back up to the beginning of this blog post, you can read the whole post I did about sustainable fashion, so for a more in-depth chat, take a look there. In the meantime, here are a few things you can do to make your bedroom more eco-friendly:
  • Research sustainable clothing brands
  • Buy second-hand or purchase items from charity shops
  • Up-cycle clothing or give them a new lease of life
  • Don't throw items of clothing away, donate them to friends or a charity shop instead

An eco-friendly | Home office

There are so many ways in which you can make your home office, or WFH space more eco-friendly. Some of these things you probably wouldn't have given a second thought to, so basically, I'm on hand to give you a few tips to make your WFH more sustainable:
  • Recycle the paper you use
  • If possible, go paperless
  • Research eco-friendly stationary you can buy
  • Buy items that can be reused, like a coffee cup
  • Invest in solid furniture, this way, you won;t be throwing away and replacing bits with little thought
