How to Stop Caring About What Other People Think
In this day and age, it can be difficult to forget about the outside world, together with the thoughts and feelings they might have about you. In an age where social media is prevalent, it can be easy to think that everyone has an opinion about you and is judging you from a distance, but the reality is that they're not.
So you should stop caring about what other people think of you and just live your best life. But this can be easier said than done. That's why I'm going to give you a few pointers on how to stop caring about what other people think of you. So let's dive right in!
Start by reminding yourself that no one actually cares
We regularly misunderstand and overestimate how much people actually give us a second thought. You don't have to worry about what they think, because they're probably not thinking anything about you in the first place.
If you're feeling self-conscious, or as though someone might be judging you from a far, just remind yourself that the chances of them thinking about you are slim and that you're just creating an illusion that they are because you, yourself, are thinking about...well...yourself.
Stop judging other people
If you're someone who judges other people, then it's only natural that you're going to assume that other people are judging you, in the same way that you judge them. Effectively, to judge someone is to create a belief that you're judging one another, which, most of the time, simply isn't true.
If you refrain from judging others, then you'll slowly realise that you're not being judged either. Therefore carry on with your activities, wear what you want and do what you want, within reason, and don't care about what anyone else may or may not be thinking.
Don't keep aiming for perfection
Perfection, whether it be in your home, how you dress, your lifestyle, your job or anything else, can be a sure sign of people-pleasing, which goes against everything we're trying to do here. Aiming for perfection means aiming for people-pleasing, because you care about what other people think.
As already touched upon, it's unlikely that people will actually be thinking about you, your lifestyle, your home or your job at all, so there's no reason to aim for perfection in every aspect of your life. Not only is it exhausting to achieve, and even more tiring to maintain, but it's a huge waste of your time. Perfection is an illusion that you're creating for other people, who aren't actually paying attention. Let go of the perfection idealism and your ability to stop caring about what other people think will soon follow.
