5 Ways Having a Bath is Good for the Soul

Everyone loves a bath, especially when the weather is as cold as it has been. It warms you through and it's nice and relaxing. But what if I told you that there were other benefits to be had by having a nice warm bath? Here are five ways having a bath is good for the soul!

1. Baths may be able to improve heart health

A Japanese study found that having a bath once a day for five consecutive days actually lowered markers of cardiac loading and some heart health issues. Another study also determined that heat therapy protected against cardiovascular issues, including high blood pressure and arterial stiffness.

2. It's thought that baths have similar effects to doing a light workout

A number of studies have found that having a hot bath has the same effect as doing a light workout. It can reduce inflammation, which is great if you're a gym bunny, and it can maintain blood sugar levels as well. However, another study done by Loughborough University found that having a hot bath could burn as many as 130 calories, the same amount of calories as if you were to take a brisk 30-minute walk.

3. Baths help to alleviate stress

A 2018 study found that people who regularly take baths have generally lower stress levels and are just happier overall, apparently. But it was common knowledge that having a hot bath is a great way to destress and unwind at the end of a long working day.

4. Baths might be able to improve your immune system

According to Public Goods, having a hot bath can help to improve your immune system, in much the same way as a cold shower can. It's proven to reduce symptoms of asthma, fatigue, obesity, anxiety and a number of other health conditions. It also helps with muscle relaxation, so say goodbye to your bad back!

5. Baths can help you to have a good night's sleep

A study found that having a warm bath before bed is one of the best ways to get a good night's sleep. The study found that having a bath at night for two consecutive days increased sleep continuity and resulted in a deeper, undeserved sleep. Apparently, it's to do with the temperature the bath is at when you take one! I like mine to be steaming hot, so that' me out for the count then, haha.
