Our New Front Door: Before & After

We have been living in our house now for just over a year and since we moved in, we've been dreaming of a new front door. The old one had dropped, meaning it let in an awfully cold draught, but it also meant we had to lock it with two hands. The letter box was brittle and cracked and the glass was a dated leaf pattern with a bar across the middle. It really needed ripping out and a new one putting in.

We designed our new front door ourselves. It's anthracite grey with three diamonds in the top two glass panels. The glass is patterned behind it for added privacy and the side panel is adorned with the same glass pattern, only without a bar across the middle this time. We also opted for no letter box and a door knocker as opposed to a doorbell.

The door itself was actually fitted on the 2nd February, so it's been in for a couple of weeks now and we're so in love with it. Please excuse the gaps around the edges on the inside. We didn't want any beading as we didn't like the look of it, so we'll be plastering up close to the plastic of the panes instead. The door fitter made this even more simple for us as he knew we didn't want beading. I hope you like the new look - we certainly do!

Before...

The door fitter said this door was at least twenty years old, which we weren't surprised about. We had already put a new door handle on it as the one that came with it when we bought the house was stiff and even more difficult to lock than this one. The letter box was cracked and let in all the cold air, as did the door itself as it had dropped.

Also, the glass was single-pane and not put in very well to begin with, so it's no wonder our hallways, stairs and landing were constantly freezing. We also thought the bar across the middle of the side panel looked dated and dreary, so we were glad to see that go.

After...

This is out door afterwards - what a difference! There's not really a whole lot to say about it than what's already been said at the start of this blog post. I just wanted to add this little section in so that I could drool over it and be reminded of what was there before.
