5 Reasons Why You Should Visit Nashville, Tennessee

Nashville is an excellent place to go and visit, for a number of reasons. You might not have given the city a second thought, especially when it comes to visiting the USA. If you think "holiday to the USA", you automatically think New York, Florida or LA. Your mind doesn't usually go to cities in the south of the country. That's why I thought I'd right this blog post; Nashville is totally underrated and people need to know it. Here are 5 reasons to visit Nashville today!

1. There's always live music to listen to

The very epitome of Nashville is smoked meats and live music, usually of the rock variety. You'd find it very difficult to walk down the street, especially at night, without hearing live music coming from every angle. The bars are designed with front windows that open out, like bi-fold doors, to allow the sound to spill out into the road. It's how I always imagine Beale Street being in Memphis during its heyday.

2. The food is incredible

Food in America is amazing in comparison to the type of food you get over here in the UK. It's just on a completely other level and the same goes for what's served up in Nashville. They're famous for their smoked meats, mainly ribs and pulled pork. It's near-on impossible to visit Nashville without going to a smokehouse out there.

In fact, it would be a complete waste of a trip if you didn't. Martin's in the centre of the city is well worth a visit, but make sure you join the queue early if you want dinner at a reasonable time, because the line goes out of the door and down the street - it's that popular!

3. There are cultural landmarks all over the place

Although there aren't any super famous landmarks throughout the city, like there are in New York, there are still several tall buildings and museums to go and have a look at. We visited an old train station that had been transformed into a hotel. We then went to the Nashville Hard Rock Cafe and went to an once-used plantation further into the countryside. We even went to the Jack Daniel's Distillery! If you do your research beforehand, you'll soon find that there's plenty to do and see is this underrated city.

4. You'll get the full, Southern Hospitality experience

Everyone is so welcoming towards tourists there. At least, that's what we found when we went. They can't do enough for you. From giving you directions to recommending the perfect place to eat breakfast on a Saturday morning, the experience and hospitality is second-to-none in Nashville. I'd definitely go back and visit just for that.

5. The atmosphere is electric, but also relaxing

Unlike other US cities, like New York, there's a really laid back atmosphere throughout Nashville. There's no unspoken pressure to do it all or see it all like there is with other places. This is because, although there's plenty to see and do, it's not all something that everyone will be wanting to tick off their list.

Nashville is what you make of it. Whether you'd prefer a relaxing city break, trying out all the eateries or a more party-like experience visiting the bars, listening to live music and experiencing the nightlife, Nashville has it all and it's down to you to get out of it what you will.
