5 Reasons to Visit the Cotswolds
The Cotswolds - it's such an iconic, idyllic location in the heart of England that most people forget about. There are many different towns and villages that sit within it, each one offering their own quirks and character.
But really, you can tell when you've hit the Cotswolds border, purely by the stone that the houses and buildings are made from. So, why should you take the time out this summer to visit the Cotswolds?
In this article, I'll be listing five reasons why you should out this location on your bucket list of things to see and do in the UK. Here's why you should visit the Cotswolds this summertime.
1. Picture-postcard views
The thing that strikes me most about the Cotswolds is the views. Everywhere you look, no matter which town or village you visit, it will offer incredible, picture-postcard views that just can't be seen anywhere else in the UK. I think the Cotswolds has a distinctive look and style, to the point where is someone posted a picture of it on Instagram, I'd know exactly where they were.
I'd love to spend more time walking around there, but the towns and villages themselves are so picturesque that I don't think you'd need the rolling hills and vast landscapes to make the place look gorgeous, because it already looks incredible.
2. It's a foodie's dream come true
There are loads of food and eating establishments dotted around the Cotswolds, most of which are independently-owned. In fact, you'd be hard-pushed to find high-street coffee shops like Starbucks or Nero. The food is so fresh, and often, it's local produce. I totally recommend hitting up the local cafes and restaurants, because the food they serve is second-to-none.
3. Families have a choice of activities
There are loads of things to do in the Cotswolds for families, aside from visiting the odd family-run restaurant and going for a walk along a canal. For those animal lovers, there are a few farms that you can visit, along with public walking trails and outdoor activities on offer too. There's something for everyone to do in the Cotswolds, even if you're a family.
4. There are loads of quirky, independent shops to visit
Like I've already said, you won't really find any household name shops in the Cotswolds. This often means that you'll be able to find loads of unique trinkets and other items that you won't get anywhere else. Not only do they make great gifts, but you never know what you might find in the treasure trove of independently-owned shops in the Cotswolds.
5. There are a wealth of traditional pubs to drink at
Everyone loves a good pub, and the Cotswolds are just full of them. There's a pub almost every three feet, it feels like, haha. The good part is that they're all very inviting, cosy and traditional, which is what you'd expect from a picturesque tourist hot spot, such as the Cotswolds.
Even if you just nip in there with your dog on the way back from exploring one of their many walking trails, you'll find that they're always welcoming and have a great drink selection available too.
