5 Easy Ways to Beat the Midday Slump

The midday slump is totally a real thing, whether it's a day at work or a day spent running errands. Depending on what you're doing, you can run out of steam, but why it happens at midday every time is anyone's guess.

But seeing as I sometimes get to the midday slump, I have come up with some coping mechanisms for getting past it, so I thought I'd share some of them with you! Here are five easy ways to beat the midday slump.

1. Go for a walk

I know what you're thinking. Going for a walk is always everyone's answer to every problem. But it's actually a great way to break up the day, even if you just went for a quick stroll around the block.

I find that it marks where the morning ends and the afternoon beings, giving me a free head by the time I get back home. I do this whether I'm working or evening at the weekends when we're doing some renovation work of the house. No matter what my day entails, going for a walk is a something I love to do to beat the midday slump.

2. Listen to feel-good music

Listening to music that makes you feel good and energised is a great way to beat the midday slump. Your mood will go from being tired and sluggish to happy and ready to take on the rest of the day. Again, this is something I do to beat the midday slump whether I'm at work or not.

3. Have a hearty breakfast

It sounds silly, but starting the day off right with a good, healthy, hearty breakfast is a great way of making sure you're mentally and physically energised for the day ahead, no matter what it might entail. Go for high-protein, high-energy foods, like porridge, overnight oats or eggs, to get the day started.

4. Get a good night's sleep

Making sure you get a good night's sleep is essential if you starting to feel tired and lethargic as the day goes on. You could just be sleep deprived and getting some well-deserved rest could solve the problem entirely.

5. Enjoy some caffeine, but not too much...

A cup of coffee here and there provides a much-needed boost, but it's not something I would solely rely on to get you through the day. I fact, they recommend that you don't consume caffeine after around 3pm, for that reason. I like to have two cups of coffee in the morning and then one in the afternoon, normally around 2pm. I'm not saying to avoid caffeine, just have a healthy dose of it!
