Our New Dining Table & Chairs from Barker & Stonehouse
We have a new addition to our home - a dining table and some new chairs. I can't tell you how in need of a new one we were. The old set was from IKEA and the chairs were £20 each. It's also about five years old and has received continued use in that time.
It's been with us through thick and thin and comes complete with its own scuffs, marks and even a dollop of super glue. So we thought it was high time we invested and bought a new dining table and chairs that were a bit more high end.
We had been looking for about two years already but we just couldn't find one we liked that was within our budget. So when we saw this one in the winter sale, we thought we'd go for it! We liked the design, the size was perfect and it went amazingly with our new kitchen, as we have a kitchen/diner.
The chairs were just a bonus. Not only are they the most comfortable chairs you've ever sat in, but they also swivel. This makes it easier to get in and out without having to drag them out from under the table. They're heavy and faux leather, so they're super easy to keep clean and any spillages can be wiped up!
The table is melamine coated and it can be extended to seat eight people rather than six. It's a great feature, especially if we were wanting to do a spread or some Christmas dinner where everyone can just help themselves. We love the pattern and the design of it, and it feels heavy and solid.
The only downside to our Barker and Stonehouse experience was the delivery. Not to mention the table itself was damaged. It looked as thought it had been attacked by Wolverine in three of the four corners. Also, the chair legs were damaged too.
Not to mention the guys delivering the table put a hole through our new wall and didn't tell us they'd done it. Also, they marked the table legs tightening up the bolts. So we had to ring customer services about the damages to the table and the chairs.
We managed to get all the chairs for half the price. But we couldn't live with the scratched table top, so we had that replaced. As of writing this, the replacement table hasn't been delivered yet, so we'll see what condition that's in when it gets here.
With regards to the hole in the wall, it was almost as if we weren't telling the truth. They asked us to fill a form in asking us loads of condescending questions about the incident. We then had to provide pictures, but we didn't witness the damage being done, so we then had to source a before and after photo.
We sent this to the customer service team and it took them nearly a week to get back to us. The only reason they did is because we had to follow it up. Luckily, they refunded the £89 delivery fee, which is the least they could have done.
While the hole in the wall and the damaged goods did put a downer on the experience, you can't take away from how nice the product actually is and how well it fits in with our home. It also matches perfectly with our new kitchen doors and cabinets.
But it has put us off using Barker and Stonehouse again as the process wasn't clear or simple and getting any form of refund was hard work. So would I recommend Barker and Stonehouse? No. Would I recommend the table and chairs? Yes, provided they're undamaged when you get them haha.
