How to Make Your Own Oven Baked Chips (Fries)
So it's been a while since I did a DIY post, but hopefully you enjoy this one as it's great to try on a rainy day, or if you're just feeling adventurous! It's a really quick, simple recipe that won't need bags of time to prepare or cook.
This is a method passed down to me by my beloved grandma and I'm honoured to share that with the rest of the world! Now, lets get stuck in :) P.S. This recipe also works just as well when using sweet potato as an alternative.
NOTE: After some research, the method of cooking and preparing this dish doesn't vary very much at all, so it may seem similar to other, more well known and popular recipes by famous cooks or chefs.

What You Will Need
- As many potatoes as you think is necessary- Garlic Infused Olive Oil
- You may decide to use plain Olive Oil instead, this is ok also
- Salt (optional)
- Pepper (optional)
- Plus any other herbs/spices that you may wish to add
The Method
Step 1
- Take your potatoes and cut them up to resemble something of a thick cut chip/fry
- You can leave the skin on, or you can peel them depending on preference
Step 2
- This step is optional, however, it will help the potatoes cook a little faster and stop them absorbing as much fat
- At this point, boil the raw chips in a pan until they come gently to the boil
- You can put salt in if you'd like them to have more of an infused flavour
Step 3
- If you've decided to boil your potato sticks, you now need to drain them into a colander
- Leave to cool for a few minutes before placing them on a baking tray
Step 4
- Now you're potato sticks have cooled slightly, you can start arranging them on to a baking tray
- Try and ensure they aren't squashed up against each other, try and give them an equal spreading
Step 5
- It is here that you cover the potato sticks in Garlic Infused Olive Oil (or normal Olive Oil depending on your individual tastes)
- Simply dribble enough Olive Oil to cover all the chips generously
- You can also turn them if you like so the entirety of the potato is in Olive Oil
- If you wish to add Salt/Pepper, now is the time to do so
Step 6
- Place the baking tray into a pre-heated oven
- I cooked my chips on gas mark 7 which is around 220 degrees
- Leave them to cook for 17-20 minutes
- Keep checking on them once in a while as some chip may cook faster than others depending on the thickness
Once they're done, you can leave them to cool for several minutes then kick back and relax with you're healthy chips and simply enjoy!
