Summer Bank Holiday in the Cotswolds

This August Bank Holiday, we visited the Cotswolds with my side of the family and their little dog, Pip. It was such a lovely, relaxing weekend. I thought that, although we didn't do loads while we were there, I'd document the occasion here on my blog. This is just a quick summary of what we got up to over the three summery days we spent in the sleepy Cotswolds.

Family time, Daylesford & Uno

We spent the first day relaxing, walking and eating amazing food, which I didn't actually take any pictures of, surprisingly. We must have just been having such a good time! We also managed to squeeze in a quick visit to Daylesford Farms Shop & Garden Centre, which I did take a couple of pictures of, I remembered, haha. Later that night, we all got together at our Air B&B and ordered a takeaway.

We had a delicious Indian followed by Eton Mess for pudding. We drank wine and played Uno & 21 well into the night. It was such a lovely evening. In fact, both of my parents whooped me at Uno...five times in a row! I think I finally met my match haha.

The Farmer's Dog & Sunday lunch

While I don't have many pictures of the previous day, we certainly made up for it the next day. We visited The Farmer's Dog, which is a pub that features in Clarkson's Farm over on Amazon Prime. In fact, you see him jumping through all the hoops to get the pub open in the latest series.

Well, anyway, we didn't actually manage to get a table booked in the pub itself. It's always booked up with long waiting lists. However, they do have a tent set up with plenty of outdoor seating. It's complete with two bars, a little shop, a burger van (which serves sausage and bacon cobs in the morning) and a pizza van.

You can try pretty much all of the ales, lagers, beers and ciders that they have on offer. It's all brewed locally using local produce, either from Clarkson's farm or others in the local vicinity. It's well worth a visit, even if you can't get a place in the pub itself. But I would say to get there when it opens, because it does get very busy. If you want to guarantee a parking space and a seat, get there early.

Later in the day, we all met up again for Sunday lunch and a bit of a walk. It was a really lovely meal. I went for beef, as did the majority of the family, with only a couple choosing either chicken or pork. I didn't have any pudding, but I did treat myself to a flat white, which was just delightful!

Bourton-On-the-Water

This is probably one of the prettiest, but definitely the busiest, villages in the Cotswolds. While it is one of my favourites, you need to get there early in the day, I'm talking no later than 10am. It allows you to get a parking space and to go and grab a coffee and hit the shops before the crowds start to gather.

It was a lovely sunny day, so it was the perfect weather to go have a walk and take in the sights. It's full of independent shops selling all sorts of different things, even an all-year-round Christmas shop and a shop that only sells leather goods, like hats, jackets and handbags.

You can find all sorts of quirky items, but I do definitely recommend going to get some baked goods because they're just to die for there. It's also very dog-friendly, which is great if you want to bring your furry friend.
