BUDGET BEAUTY | Hints & Tips That Will Save You Money
Its always nice to save money, due to the recession in the UK (and other countries), the cost of living has risen, therefore people are always on the hunt for a bargain, and if your not, you are even a billionaire, or telling a slight porky (lie) ;). Even if I went into town with £200 to spend, I would still be very careful with my money. I found that the price of staying and feeling gorgeous has sky rocketed, so I decided to take my own personal experiences and use them to give fellow students and other people on a budget, a helping hand.
1. Always Plan Your Trip. I know it sounds strange because I find the enjoyment of shopping can decrease after you have set yourself a target, but trust me, it really works! Decide what you need, decide where you are going to buy the goods and then choose a budget to stick to. EG "I need to buy hair conditioner in Superdrug and I am not going to spend more than £3".
2. Do Your Research. There is nothing worse than buying something at full price that you could have got on offer or on sale, this goes for anything, not just beauty items. If you know you need something and that the price for that particular product will vary then find out how much it would cost in different shops, EG, lets say you need a specific type of spot treatment and you know it costs £5 in Boots but you also know that the price could vary depending on where you get it from, so check what it would cost in Superdrug (which is generally slightly cheaper anyway), you can do this by visiting the Superdrug website so you aren't marching from one end of the shopping centre to the other, so you now know it would cost £3.50 on offer in Superdrug, automatically you have saved yourself £1.50. Doing your research really does pay off.
3.Try and Bring Cash Instead of a Card. This doesn't really apply if you are planning on spending a fair bit of money to either accommodate for a family or even as gifts for other people seeing as we are getting into the festive season (quite rapidly as well xD), but lets say you just want to buy a lipstick in a specific colour and some moisturiser, if you have already followed points 1 and 2, you should have just about enough to buy these products. The idea of this is, if you have a specific amount of cash but have left your credit or debit card at home, then there is only so much that you can spend in one trip.
Lets say you go into Boots with the intention of buying a hair brush and you only have a card by which to pay for it, then you may see your card as having a bottomless pit of cash, therefore buying a lot more than just a hair brush. If you could see the physical amount of money leaving your account, you would slow down on the spending front. Imagine you have £50 in notes in your purse and you spend £48, by seeing what little money you have left, you have now realised that that was a very substantial amount of money to spend, and so you shouldn't have spent it, it is harder to have this frame of mind if you just pay for things on a credit/debit card because you haven't seen any physical money leaving your account, your card has no weight, unlike a purse where you could feel your purse get lighter with the more you spend and visa versa. It is all very psychological but this is the very best advice that I could give you spending wise.
4. Look Up Reviews Online. One could argue that this could go under 'do your research' but I think this is a whole new field. Lets say you want you want to buy a blusher palette from Sleek, you are looking at a good £10. Now lets say you buy it and the product is not very pigmented or hard wearing, you have essentially just wasted £10, which for a student especially, is a rather lot of money. If you looked up a review of the product on a different blog post, you would have known that that product was not very effective and therefore wouldn't have bought it. This is always a good thing to do if you want to buy a new foundation or mascara because these tend to be the most expensive products from any makeup brand.
5. Keep Re-Purchasing. Once you have found a product that you like and works well for you at a great price, keep re-purchasing it. If it comes on offer, maybe buy 2 instead of one so you wont have to pay full price next time, therefore saving you money.
6. Never Shop on an Empty Stomach. I know this is totally non-beauty related but I thought it would be a great thing to mention. If you are hungry, especially when you go food shopping, you are more likely to buy more food than you actually need and you are also more likely to buy unhealthy foods which can be bad for your health.
