The Best Curry in Birmingham? What I Thought to Dishoom

Dishoom is a wonderful Indian restaurant that can be found in a few places across the UK, including London and Birmingham, and that's the one that I'm wanting to talk about today. Dishoom in the heart of Birmingham is a traditional Indian restaurant that serves street-food-style dishes that are both authentic and delicious - how could the two NOT go hand-in-hand?

I have tried a fair number of Indian restaurants in my 29 years on the planet, but Dishoom is a cut above the rest. It's unlike anything else I have ever tried before. In fact, it's so good that I have actually been three times now. Basically, any time we were in Birmingham, we made an excuse to go and visit Dishoom, despite there being several other eateries and restaurants around.

I'm broad-brushing all of the times we have been to Dishoom, so I won't be focusing on one visit or on individual dishes, it's just a blanket review of Dishoom in Birmingham. So let me firstly start with the restaurant itself, its layout and its seating.

Dishoom: restaurant style, layout & setting

The restaurant is very spacious, so you're never waiting for a considerable amount of time for a table, which is great because it can be difficult to book a table. They normally like you to walk-up to the restaurant rather than book. But don't let that put you off, because you're always, pretty much guaranteed, a table within a reasonable time frame.

In addition to getting a table in good time, the actual restaurant itself smells incredible. As soon as you walk in through the door you can't wait to be seated just so you can eat the food that they're preparing. It's incredibly easy to get around and the loos aren't far away either.

I know, sometimes, it can be off-putting for people if the toilets are miles away or are at the top or at the bottom of loads of flights of stairs. All round, it's a great restaurant experience. The ambience is amazing, but it's also incredibly relaxing. It's just the right setting for a chilled-out, enjoyable restaurant experience.

Dishoom: the food

As I've said previously, I'm not harping on a particular experience here because the food they serve in Dishoom is second-to-none, but it's consistently incredible. We have never had a bad experience there, not even after three times of going. Usually, a restaurant will slip up in some way, but not Dishoom.

It might be considered a little bit expensive as you have to order several small dishes, like tapas, but the quality of the food is unrivalled. You know that you've eaten great food because it doesn't take much for you to become satisfied, hunger-wise.

If anything, you're missing out by not going to eat at Dishoom, because I think that everyone should go and give it a try, at some point or another. If you've ever been to Mowgli, then it's a similar style to that, only without the swings, haha. However, as controversial as this might be, the food in Dishoom is better. Go and pay Dishoom a visit and make your mind up yourself. But if you hadto order one thing, go for the chicken Ruby Murray!
