Somerset | A Photo Diary

We visited the West Country last week in a bid to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and the stresses of everything post-lockdown. Somerset was ideal as we were able to visit and experience a multitude of locations in a very short space of time. We managed to squeeze in a trip to Wells, Bath, Glastonbury and even Bristol, so we really made the most of our time there.

This blog post isn't going to contain streams of text, mainly because I want this to be a photo diary of sorts, something you can effortlessly scroll through and see with your own eyes what we did there. There's also a slight difference in the sense that the following photos were taken using an iPhone instead of my hefty Canon, giving a more authentic vibe.

Wells, the smallest city in England

Wells has a cathedral, making it the smallest city in England. Fun fact, it's also where most of the filming took place for the hilariously dark action film, Hot Fuzz starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. See if you can spot any of the famous locations.

The Roman Baths & Royal Crescent

I've visited the Roman Baths with my family before, about 14/15 years ago, so I can't really remember much in terms of any information about the Baths itself. For example, the surrounding construction work, including the pillars and statues, are all Victorian and the Bath itself was excavated over 100 years ago. There are bits and pieces an 11 year old wouldn't be bothered about, but it was great to go back and fully appreciate all.

Glastonbury (no, not the gig)

Glastonbury is like no place I've ever been before, it's full of shops selling crystals and incense, stuffed with vegan cafes and coffee establishments and buskers playing dubious looking instruments. It was definitely an experience just to walk around the place (which is very small). However, there's also an Abbey there so we took the option to go and pay that a visit, too.

Aerospace Bristol

My boyfriend and I have always been interested in this kind of thing, so whenever we have an opportunity to go and visit an air museum, we're all over it! I'd never visited the Bristol one before, so we thought it would be worth a visit, even if it was just for the Concorde they have on display there.

In fact, the Concorde here was the last one to fly, and therefore one of the latest models which retired in 2003. I actually remember its last flight, which, looking back, was quite a sad day for the world of aerospace. But it was brilliant to see the aircraft being preserved and looked after in an air hanger. If you're ever down that way, pay it a visit and support the cause.
