How to Make the Most of the Last Days of Summer
September has hit us pretty quickly and before we know it, the sun and warm weather will be gone. But let's not dwell on that right now. Let's talk about how we can make the most of what the summer still has to offer us!
Soak up the sun, safely, of course
Make the most of the sun that's left, especially while it's still warm. Make sure you have some sun cream on though and also a sun hat to protect your scalp, but if you do all of that then why not get out into the garden for the short time that's left? Even if you're just looking to get the last bit of gardening done or have one last doze on your sun lounger before putting it back in the garage for another year.
Read one last book
I love me a good book. I did English at university and since then, reading a book has been my idea of hell. But recently, I've really just had a hankering to read a good book, whether it be fiction or non-fiction. I just don't think there's anything else that can give you the same experience as reading a book can and reading one in the sun with a glass of wine seems like the idea of heaven to me, so I'll be making an effort to do that before the summer fades out and the autumn fades in.
Go for a few walks
There's nothing quite like a beautiful summer evening and we're still experiencing those in September so why not make the most of it while we still can? Now we have a bit more time on our hands, after we've renovated the rooms in the house we wanted to so far, we've been loving going for a walk and stopping off at the village pub for a drink on our way home. It also gives a chance to stretch our legs after a day of working from home.
Prepare your garden for the autumn weather
It's important that you get your garden up to scratch before heading inside for the autumn. Make sure you prune back all of the plants you need to, mow the grass and water those plants. Start putting frost bags or blankets over your plants and bushes and make sure you outdoor tap is well-insulated as well. Small things like this will make gardening all the more quick, simple and easy for the spring, when it's time to get our gardening gloves back on and prep everything for the summer - coming full circle!
Sit in a beer garden
I think every British person loves a beer garden and just because we're now in the ninth month of the year doesn't mean that we have to hobble inside the pub and drink our ice cold beers in there. It might be a tad more chilly now, but bring a blanket or a jacket and take the opportunity to sit outside and enjoy your beverage. Summer doesn't last as long has it needs to in the UK so make any excuse to sit outside and enjoy the sun on your face and the wind in your hair, because come winter, you'll be sure to miss it.
