Everything I Loved in June
Half way through the year already? No way! Only another six months till Christmas (that's right, I said it, haha), but for now, let's talk about what's been happening over the last four weeks. Not as much happened in June than happened in May (you'll know that if you've read my May favourites), but it was still an absolutely stellar month. My dad celebrated his birthday, our friends got married and we saw Disney 100 the Concert live, among other things. So without further ado, let's dive right in to what I loved throughout the month of June.
Celebrating my dad's birthday
We went to Hickory's Smokehouse in the middle of the month for my dad's birthday. It was just as good as I remember it being and there's actually set to be another one opening even closer to us, which is both great and dangerous, haha.
But anyway, We celebrating my dad's birthday by going for lunch there and then going back to theirs for some birthday doughnuts (as requested by the birthday boy, instead of a cake) and then we walked into the local town and had a variety of cocktails. Tom and I spent the night at my parents' house so we could both enjoy a tipple. It was a really chilled out weekend and my dad had a great day - what more could you ask for on your birthday?!
Disney 100 in Concert
At the start of the month, we went to the NEC in Birmingham to see the Disney 100 The Concert. The Hollywood Orchestra played all of the music live, playing hits from a variety of different films, both new and old as well as some theme-songs from Star Wars and Marvel. There was something there for everyone, young and old. If they ever come around again, I'd go again for sure. You can read more about it in this blog post, if you'd like :)
Making headway with the garden
We have been wondering since we bought the house what to do with the garden. We got rid of a badly-built pergola and some really poor decking. It was a health and trip hazard, so it had to go. After we got rid of it all, it just left us with a giant mound of dirt, rubble and gravel, together with some rubbish the previous owners had hid under the decking.
There was also an old holly bush there that they never got rid of so it kept growing up and through the decking. It was a mess and needed stripping out and starting again. We also wanted to paint the fence a different colour. It was an orange colour beforehand and we hated it. But now we're making some headway in terms of garden improvements and you can really see it coming together now.
Maybe next month, I'll be revealing our garden transformation. But just keep in mind that there are still some things we would like to do the garden, even after our improvements, but it's a definite improvement on what was there before.
Going to our friends' wedding
On the 10th June two of our dearest friends got married in a gorgeous ceremony, followed by an amazing reception and we were honoured to receive an invite. Tom was a proud groomsman and had some huge responsibilities on the day, but he did really well and everything went off without a hitch. The only thing was, it was extremely hot that day, hitting temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius. But despite record temperatures for June, everyone had a wonderful time, hence why it's a highlight in my month.
The Little Mermaid-inspired flowers
I loved receiving these flowers this month. It marked one year since we got engaged and so, aptly, they were Disney-themed. The Little Mermaid is my absolute favourite Disney film, so this made these flowers even more significant. I wrote a dedicated blog post all about them, and you'll also be able to get some more close ups of them in this blog post here - enjoy :)
