Everything I Loved in May
The month of May came around so quickly and yet the time it lasted felt like 5 minutes, but I think that's because we had a lot going on that month, what with the King's Coronation, 3 bank holidays and everything in between, which I'll get onto in this blog post! So without further ado, here's everything that I loved throughout May - enjoy :)
The Coronation
I've actually written a dedicated blog post all about this day, which you can read here, but it was just a really wonderful, chilled out weekend. We went to my parents' house on the Saturday, which was the day the King was crowned, and we had a mega buffet and great food and drink.
On the Sunday, we met up with Tom's parents and we went for a walk around the countryside that surrounds our house, then came back for some cake and prosecco whilst we watched the Coronation concert. Monday was just spent chilling out and watching some Marvel films, which I highly-recommend, so that weekend was all about being surrounded by family and enjoying some downtime - lovely!
Seeing Russell Howard live
Again, I have written a whole separate blog post about this night, which you can take a look at here, but he was an absolute scream. I have seen him live before in an arena setting, about six years ago now, but this was different in the fact that we saw him in a theatre, so it was a bit more intimate. It felt like you were at the pub with him almost. But he was a hoot!
I would definitely go and see him again on a different tour because his new material had us in stitches. I love seeing what they'll come out with next and Russell Howard totally relates to my sort of humour. We actually went to see him on the evening of the Coronation, which made that weekend even more jam-packed :)
Giving blood
Again, something I did over the Coronation weekend, I went to give blood for the fifteenth time on the Sunday. After that, we had Tom's parents and his granddad round for Sunday roast, which I cooked afterwards (although I did have some help because I couldn't lift much with my blood-giving arm). But anyway, I like to make a point of giving blood whenever I get the chance because I just find it so rewarding.
It actually comes after my own granddad needed a blood transfusion, which helped to keep him with us for longer, and I wanted to do that for someone else and their family. However, my blood only goes to premature babies because I have something called NEO blood. NEO blood is essentially "pure" blood, which is the only kind of blood that premature babies are allowed in their bodies.
Because it's quite rare to find someone with NEO blood, that's all they'll use my blood for, unless it no longer is considered NEO. I'm honoured that my blood is being used to help the most vulnerable, smallest babies. As soon as I found that out, I give blood like clockwork, going every three/four months. Sunday 8th May being no exception!
Seeing our wedding venue with our family
I won't go into too much detail about our wedding venue, because I want it to be a surprise for our friends and family, I haven't even got any pictures, haha. But once we booked it, we took our family around the venue for the first time. They left us to find a venue that we liked and just went along with our choice, which was really nice. But everyone loved it.
The venue itself had an open day that we all took the liberty to attend, so our family got to see all of the rooms, the grounds and overnight rooms that are situated upstairs. There's also a church nearby that we're going to be getting married in, you can literally walk from the church to the venue which is amazing. Everything got the parental seal of approval, so now we just have to wait till the big day for everyone else to feast their eyes on it.
Our new range cooker
Over Easter weekend, our old oven, that came with the house, packed up. It was really annoying because I had a lasagne that I had finished, but that just needed baking. We ended up taking the lasagne to Tom's parents' house to cook and eat it there, which I laugh about now. But anyway, we were oven-less for about two weeks, which wasn't a bad thing because I had a slow cooker and the hob still worked, so it could have been a lot worse.
But we eventually found a range cooker that we liked (the old one was a range-style cooker but with one big oven compartment rather than three smaller ones, like we have now). It was a pain in the bum to have fitted because we found out that the wring for the cooker was all wrong, so we needed to get an electrician out to rectify it all and put us in an isolation switch.
Once that was all done, we got Curry's back out to fit the cooker and it all worked brilliantly. So now, it's my favourite thing. It has one small oven (great for roasting a chicken or cooking a pizza), one medium-sized oven (if you have two trays of something to cook) and a long thin one at the end (perfect for a roast dinner because there's space for five or six trays). It's so much more energy-efficient than the previous one and we've noticed a difference in our electricity bill already - game changer!
