Hello Fresh: Everything We Ate in Week One

We have never tried Hello Fresh before, but some friends had used it and my brother and his girlfriend use it on the regular and it sounded like a really good, healthy way of mixing up weekday meals whilst still keeping it exciting. Seeing as we'll be doing this for the next few weeks, I thought I'd document what we've had for our Hello Fresh meals during week one.

We have only opted to have three meals a week as opposed to the full five or seven, so it's worth bearing in mind that you can tailor it to your lifestyle. So don't be confused when you only see three meals on the list as opposed to more, haha.

Then I'll do another one for week two and so on. If Hello Fresh is something you're on the fence about, then maybe seeing what sort of meals are on offer might sway you either way. So let's take a look at what we received during our first week with Hello Fresh.

How is Hello Fresh delivered?

Hello Fresh is delivered by Yodel on the day you want to start your subscription. Ours was delivered on the Wednesday and it's all kept refrigerated for optimum freshness. Even the meat comes in insulated bags that are wrapped in ice packs, so everything is cold when you receive it.

Depending on how many meals you have chosen, everything will come in one box that's packed with all of the ingredients you'll need to make your meals each day. It also comes with meal cards so you can keep the recipes and make them again even if you're no longer subscribed. It's totally worth keeping the recipe cards and also the ice packs because they'll come in handy for any picnics you go on!

Wednesday 26th April - Cheesy melt-in-the-middle beef burgers (my favourite dish of the week)

Night one of Hello Fresh was melt-in-the-middle beef burgers. It came with vegan rolls, British mince meat and all of the vegetables you'd need to make chips and season the meat itself. The only downside about this dish is you'll have to (literally) get your hands dirty because you'll have to roll the mince into a ball and then roll around a chunk of cheese.

But it's totally worth the aggro because the meat is absolutely delicious. You're even given rocket and salad dressing to go on it as well as just enough potatoes to get chips baked for two people. This meal was super quick and easy to prepare and it was all ready to eat within half an hour of putting in the oven. I would totally recreate this one at home if we ever chose to unsubscribe from Hello Fresh.

Thursday 27th April - Caribbean-style jerk pork fried rice

On the second day, it was a sort of pork and rice stir fry; a meat I had never actually thought to use in a stir fry before. Again, it was British pork and it all came very cold and fresh. They even provided us with all of the vegetables we would need as well as a small packet of basmati rice, which was actually more than enough for the two of us. We go given packets of different flavoured pastes as well as spice packets to season to the dish with throughout the process.

We were even provided with a small tin of sweetcorn, a huge bag of spinach and a whole lemon. Think of everything you could do with that leftover lemon! Much like the burger, I would definitely buy all of the ingredients for this so I could make it again when we weren't taking advantage of Hello Fresh. Another big thumbs up from me on this dish.

Friday 28th April - Sweet & sticky beef noodles

When we have dinner in the week normally, i.e. when we're not on Hello Fresh, I don't usually choose noodles as a side to a stir fry or anything else really. So it was a nice change to have some egg noodles with dinner on Friday. We were given British beef mince, again, together with a dried packet of egg noodle nests (enough for two), an entire garlic bulb and all of the delicious veggies to go along with it.

Although it was extremely tasty, it wasn't my favourite one of the week, but I definitely would have it again if I ever fancied something with noodles. It was a nice change to our normal meals, because we eat a lot of rice I think, so it was lovely to switch things up a bit and experience a different cuisine during our weekly meals.

I only ever get creative at the weekends as I have more time then to be more ambitious with dishes and to clean up afterwards as well, so this was a welcome change in our everyday routine. Also, everything is so easy to cook and to clean up as well, often only using a handful of utensils and one or two pans or baking trays at any one time, so it's so easy to wash up after dinner.
