How to Utilise Your Kitchen While it's Being Renovated
I know how it feels to rip out your entire kitchen and have nothing around to get any food or even drinks sorted. At some points, your water will be shut off as well to hook up new taps and to plumb in dishwashers etc. So it can be quite the challenge. We fitted our new kitchen ourselves, so it took a lot longer than if we had tradespeople in to do it for us. This meant we had a few months of a kitchen that was out of action. So, how did we manage? Well, that's the premise of today's blog post, so I hope you find it useful!
The slow cooker is your new best friend
If you have some sort of surface that you can chop veg and meat on, like dining table or coffee table, then you can use your slow cooker as you would have done while you had your kitchen initially. Chop up your food in another room, if you have to, and then chuck it all into your slow cooker, turn it on and wait for the nosh! It keeps pots and pans to a minimum and washing up is a breeze, whether you're using your outside tap or have the luxury of a sink in the kitchen.
Air fry everything
An air fryer can cook almost anything in no time at all. From chips to sausages and everything in between, your air fryer is worth its weight in gold if your kitchen is currently out of action. You can also get air fryers that are quite compact, so they won't take up much space at all in a room that will be a bit hectic during your kitchen renovation.
Have the oven/hob put in first
Whether it's gas-powered or electric, make sure you make the oven and hob fitting one of the first things you do when renovating your kitchen. This can be easily done if you plan it all out properly prior to ripping your kitchen out.
I say this because your hob, especially, is so useful when you don't have a lot of space or are lacking things like slow cookers and air fryers. You can put most things in a pan on the hob to cook, even if you have to cook foods that are a bit more basic while your kitchen renovation is underway.
Plug in your toaster & kettle in another room
You don't have to keep your appliances in the kitchen while the renovation is underway. Toasters and kettles are harmless if you use them in another room. By doing this, you free up space in your kitchen and it also helps to have a temporary set up that's easy and quick to use.
Plumb in your dishwasher almost straightaway
If you do nothing else first, aside from having your oven and hob put in, have your dishwasher plumbed in. This really helps if you don't have a sink available for a few days to wash up your pots and dishes. You can throw everything in there, set it off and you'll have clean crockery to use without having to even think about using the sink.
