How to Prepare Your Home for Autumn
A new season has started, or about to start, haha. Either way, autumn is right around the corner, so now is the best time to start thinking about going into a new season with a clean slate, but how can you do that while preparing your home for autumn? Let me tell you how to prepare your home for autumn, so that you can get the most of out of the season.
Do a deep clean
Nothing says fresh start and clean slate like the deep clean of your house. This includes putting away all of your summer things and cleaning bits and pieces that don't normally get cleaned or tidied. Do you have a cupboard that needs sorting?
Have you been meaning to clean on top of the fridge for months? Is there are deep recess of your bedroom that needs dusting? If so, then you need to use this time of year as an opportunity to get your house sorted. Do this now and you won't have to spend as much time doing it around Christmas time.
Declutter
This can go under the same umbrella as deep cleaning, but they're not the same thing. Have you accumulated clutter over the summer while the kids have been off school? Are you hoping to clear out some of your wardrobe to make room for some new autumnal fashion pieces?
Has some autumn decor caught your eye in the local garden centre that you want to adorn your home? If so, then a declutter and clear out might be the way forward. Do this now before you really get into the cosy months where all you'll want to do is relax in front of Strictly on a Saturday night.
Take the blankets our of storage
I don't know about you, but when the summer gets into full swing, I store all of my blankets away. But at this time of year, I am definitely inclined to bring them back out of storage, especially as the nights are getting colder. If, like me, you feel the cold and hate it, then now is the perfect time to take your blankets out of storage and start using them again.
Light some candles
Now that the cosy season is almost in full swing, it's never been a better time to light some of your favourite candles. I for one miss the scents that I only ever smell during the autumn and winter season, so when the time comes for me to finally light them all again, I'm in full-on cosy mode!
Have your log burner/fire swept
If you own a log burner or have an open fire then now is the perfect time to have it swept. It helps the burner to function more efficiently, but it's also paramount for your safety and to prevent chimney fires. It might seem trivial to have your chimney swept, but it's actually an annual job for us to prepare our home for autumn. I have actually recently written a blog post all about when to have your chimney swept, so take a look at that if you're looking for some more details and advice.
Dig our your seasonal mugs
If you're anything like me, then you'll know that seasonal mugs are an absolute must when the weather changes. These aren't the only mugs I own, I actually have loads of autumnal mugs that I like to dig out and use at this time of year, which I'm sure you've seen all of over the years here on my blog. But just looking at this photo makes me excited to start using them again.
