How to Have An Environmentally-Friendly Halloween

Halloween is fast-approaching and with the current state of the planet, we still want to make sure we're having fun over the scary period whilst still looking to keep our carbon footprint to a minimum. So how can you have an environmentally-friendly Halloween this year? Let me tell you!

Re-use where you can

If you have any decorations left over from last year, whip them out and use them again! Often, Halloween decs, much like Christmas decs, will last for many years, so don't throw something away just because you're bored of it. If you do want to get rid, donate your items to a charity shop.

Also, if you're on the hunt for new Halloween decs, visit your local thrift store or charity shop and see what they have available. Not only will you be giving something a new home that might have ended up in landfill, but you're also giving your money to a good cause as opposed to a large corporate retail giant.

Do some DIYs

If buying new decs doesn't sound like something you want to do, then get crafty. This is something that could be turned into a really fun activity if you have children. Raid the recycling bin for some plastic, cardboard or scrap pieces of paper and make something that's one of a kind. Much like you other decorations, you might find that you hang onto them for a lifetime, meaning there's no need for new pieces in the future.

Buy locally-grown pumpkins

This is something that most people like to do these days. I remember as a child we just bought ours from the supermarket with our weekly shop, but recently, Tom and I have been visiting pumpkin patches in the local area. Not only is it not too far for us to travel by car, but it helps out a local business and keeps air miles at a complete minimum.
