6 Things You Can Do to Save Money This Week
In a world where we're all looking to save some money, it's starting to look more and more like every penny counts. That's why I thought I'd put together a list of things you can do this week that will save you some money, albeit just a few pounds, but you can rest assured that it will all add up. You'll be able to put that money towards a food shop or even a holiday for next year. So let's take a look at everything I have been doing recently that has stopped me pulling at my purse strings.
1. Look for coupons
There are so many sites these days that offer amazing vouchers and offers, such as Wowcher and Groupon. Even places like Tesco are giving customers vouchers and coupons that they can use on pretty much anything, even giving you a few pennies off at the petrol pump. Keep an eye out for all of those vouchers that will save you a pretty penny here and there.
2. Stop paying for the gym
This might sound absurd if you're into your fitness and keeping active, but there are plenty of ways to keep fit that doesn't involve paying ridiculous sums of money every month. Take up running, do a few exercise videos on YouTube or try and take part in group activities, such as park runs or walks. Those things will likely be completely free of charge!
3. Cook more veggie meals
This might sound silly, but opting for vegetarian meals over ones with meat in them can be an extremely effective way of saving some money on your weekly shop. You won't have to pay out for raised beef prices, for example, if you choose to use solely vegetables instead. You'll be able to use cauliflower and finely chopped mushrooms if you're looking for a substitute for mince meat, for example, or just opt for something like ratatouille, that doesn't rely on any inclusion of meat at all.
4. Make your coffee at home
We all enjoy a cup of coffee when we're out and about, and where drinking coffee you have made at home requires some level of planning and organisation, it can just be far easier to grab a cup on the go. But these could cost an arm and a leg if you do it regularly. Instead of paying a good amount of money for a cup of joe, bring your own from home, or have a coffee at home to get your fix before you dash out of the door.
5. Carpool
Where this practice might be a bit old-out now, it's still a useful way of saving money on petrol for your own car. It can also help to keep wear and tear of mechanical parts at bay, so you'll find that you aren't replacing tyres as quickly or having the oil changed repeatedly, either. You could take the bus, but buses can be expensive depending on where you live. Carpool with friends or work colleagues if you're looking to save some cash and reduce your carbon footprint as well.
6. Use up your leftovers
We all know someone who constantly makes too much food for dinner and ends up boxing up the leftovers and putting it in the fridge for another day, only for that day to never arrive. If you're someone who always have leftovers but can never get around to actually using them up, make the effort to consume those leftovers, either for lunch or for dinner again the next day. Not only does this save money, because you'd be getting two meals for the price of one, but you'll also be cutting down on your food waste.
