5 Tips for Looking After Wool Jumpers

Wool jumpers can be nightmare to get on with. Not only do they need to be washed in the right way, but they also need to be dried correctly and stored in the right way to ensure optimum maintenance. But how can you do it effectively? Here are some tips for looking after wool jumpers:

1. Don't wash it too often

It might sound a bit grim to have a jumper and not wash it very often, but they actually don't need washing as much as our T-shirts or underwear. You can get away with several wears when it comes to wool jumpers. But it's also a way of making sure that you aren't washing them too much as it can cause them to deteriorate. According to Lenor, you can wear a wool jumper five times in a row before having to wash it. But how do you wash a wool jumper?

2. If you have to wash it, hand wash or use a washing machine on the hand wash cycle

Hand wash in warm water with washing detergent only. Do not use a fabric softener. When washing in the washing machine, wash it on a hand wash, wool or delicate cycle. If you do not have any of those options, clean it on a short cycle and on a very low spin speed. As for the temperature, check the label on the garment, but it's generally no hotter than 40 degrees Celsius.

3. Never twist or ring-out a wool jumper to dry it & also air-dry wherever possible

Instead, press it against a hard surface, laid out flat. if you're leaving it to air-dry, lay it flat on something like a table or on a long air-dryer. Never dry on hangers and don't fold on washing lines or clothes dryers - this can cause them to become misshapen. If there's additional moisture, lay a clean towel over the top of the laid-flat wool jumper to soak it all up.

4. Never hang a wool jumper - fold it instead

Hanging a wool jumper will cause it to lose its shape. Always fold it and place it neatly in a drawer. Make sure it's not crumpled or scrunched up either. If you've gone to the effort of drying it flat, the last thing you should do is pop it on hanger.

5. Don't be afraid of de-bobblers

You may never have heard of a de-bobbler before, but they're your best friend when it comes to owing and looking after wool jumpers. They will bobble-up in no time at all, and often with very little friction required. By taking a de-bobbler to it, you'll make it look as good as the day you first bought it - just go easy and always read the industrious before using.
