5 Benefits of a Spa Day Every Now & Again
We all have a moment in life where we feel like we need a break, but the option to take off and go on holiday isn't always there fore everyone. Your budget might not stretch far enough or your annual leave is limited.
No matter the reason for not jetting off somewhere sun-kissed, there are some relaxation options available to you that won't break the bank financially and that won't take up loads of annual leave time. One of those options is going on a spa day.
Spa days are great because you could go on a Saturday or during twilight hours, which is something else that these spa facilities offer. But why should you choose a spa day over a week in the sun? Here are five benefits of a spa day that you might not have thought about:
1. It will relieve stress & anxiety
Spa days have loads of different facilities available to people who are looking for some relaxation. Something I thoroughly enjoyed was going for a swim in the pool, getting wrapped up in my robe and chilling on the sunbeds.
I was so relaxed and comfortable that I didn't want to go and have the lunch that I organised there, haha. I couldn't wait to go back and lie on the sunbed again. I have never felt so relaxed and zen as I did then.
It was quiet, I had an ice water next to me, it was nice and warm - everything was perfect. They also had a room for sleep and relaxation alone. It was filled with ergonomic beds that were just the right firmness, the music was low and calming and, again, the temperature was perfect.
I could have stayed there all day as well. Either way, there are loads of different experiences that a spa day offers which means that, no matter what you choose to use, you're sure to leave the place feeling sleepy and relaxed.
2. You get to enjoy quality time with your loved ones
The reason why we went on our spa day was because it was Tom's birthday, and it meant that we got to spend some quality time with each other, time we didn't really have on his actual birthday. It gives you time with your loved ones that you don't get in the outside world, unless you have all of the mod-cons at home, like a hot tub or a steam room or an indoor pool to sit around, haha.
3. You'll get a better night's sleep
I know this from experience. After our spa day, I felt so relaxed and chilled out that, when we got home at 6pm in evening, I could have quite happily gone to bed. But when it was time to go to sleep that night, I was flat out. I had the best sleep of my life, without stirring or waking up in the middle of the night.
Also, just being able to go to sleep as soon as my head hits the pillow is an improvement. It normally takes me about an hour to fall asleep after going to bed because my mind goes ten to the dozen. But not after this spa day. If I had the time, I would definitely go more often, even just for the twilight hours.
4. Hair & skin condition will improve
Spa facilities have steam rooms and saunas available to you, together with some cold showers and mist rooms. All of these things, when used in the right way and for the right amount of time, can make your skin feel soft and velvety.
It's not like when you just go for a swim and the chlorine makes your skin and hair feel weird. We both left that spa day with exceptionally smooth skin, which is another reason why I want to keep going on spa days, haha. I'm looking for any excuse, to be honest!
5. It aids in pain relief
This might sound silly, but things like hydrotherapy pools and even the saunas and steam rooms can help to relieve some forms of pain and discomfort you might be having. Even the hot tub helps to soothe sore muscles, for instance.
The steam rooms can help with blocked sinuses, the saunas can also help with sore muscles, as can the hydrotherapy pools. There are more health benefits to be had by going on a spa day, other than just relaxing. Give it a go if you're looking to get away from life for a bit, even if it's just for one day.
