5 Things to Do at the Rockefeller Center, NYC
The Rockefeller Center in the heart of New York City is one of America's most iconic tourist destinations. It attracts millions of visitors a year, and for good reason. It's about more than just a tower. It's a vibrant hub of dining, shopping, entertainment, art and seasonal attractions that appear to tourists of all ages. But whether you're visiting for the first time or just want to make the most of your time there as a return traveller, here are five things that you can do at the Rockefeller Center in New York City.
1. Visit the 'Top of the Rock'
One of the most popular attractions at the Rockefeller Center is the Top of the Rock Observation Deck. It's situated right at the top of the skyscraper, atop 30 Rockefeller Plaza. This observation deck provides stunning panoramic views of New York, especially Manhattan. You'll be able to enjoy completely unobstructed views of:
2. Marvel at the sights
Walk around the Rockefeller Center, both inside and outdoors, and take in all of the iconic sights that are often seen in films and TV shows. You'll also be able to see the site of the Rockefeller Christmas tree, even if it's not during the festive season. Its position will be marked by a bronze plaque on the floor just outside the entrance. Go and have a look to see what you can spy.
3. Do a spot of shopping
There are loads of shops that line both the exterior and the inside of the Rockefeller Center. If you're in the market for anything from new toys for the children or a new handbag to add to your collection, you'll find it all at the Rockefeller Center.
4. Explore
Have a look at what Rockefeller Center has to offer. We particularly enjoyed walking around the interior, marvelling at the decor, the size and gold-leaf statues and fountains that adorn the outside. While it might seem boring on the outside, all you have to do is explore and look a little closer to really appreciate the beauty of the Rockefeller Center. Even the windows are beautiful.
5. Grab something to eat
Rockefeller Center is full of eating establishments like cafes and restaurants. If you're feeling peckish, then visit one of the many little eateries in and around the areas. We ate at the Top of the Rock, with a cocktail, a coffee and a slice of authentic New York cheesecake.
