How to Spend 24 Hours in Toronto

When we went on our USA/Canada road trip, we managed to squeeze in a day in the delightful city of Toronto. It was a shame that we only had 24-hours there, but we still managed to fit loads into our itinerary.

But it got me thinking. I'm sure there are people out there who want to visit Toronto but only have a day or so to do it all in, and they may be doubting that they can get a good visit out of it.

Let me tell you that it is possible to spend 24 hours in Toronto and still have an amazing time. Here's how to spend 24 hours in Toronto, from someone who has been there, done it and worn the T-shirt!

Visit the CN Tower

The CN Tower is definitely a must if you visit Toronto. In fact, it would be almost CRAZY to NOT visit the CN Tower if you're planning on going to Toronto. Get 360-degree views of one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen.

There's even a rotating restaurant up there where you can dine and look out of the window at the unobscured view with a plate of delicious food and amazing wine. That's exactly what we did, and it was so worth it.

The best thing about the restaurant? It's actually a floor HIGHER than the observation deck you pay for, and it includes a full ticket to the observation deck as well. So, a visit to the CN Tower, if you have 24 hours in Toronto, is definitely a must-do activity.

Explore the Distillery District

If you're one for history and distilleries, then a visit to Toronto's Distillery District would be right up your alley. It's a pedestrian-only area that's set in a quaint 19th century building block that was once home to a giant whiskey distillery.

It draws crowds to cobbled streets, hip restaurants, independent boutiques and interesting art galleries. If you go during the festive season, then you'll find that the Christmas market is held here. It's definitely worth a visit as there's so much to see, do and buy.

Browse St Lawrence Square

Located in the Old Town District is a culinary hub in the heart of downtown Toronto. Established in 1803, it houses over 120 vendors that offer everything from vintage cheeses to Toronto's famous peameal bacon sandwiches.

St Lawrence Square is split into three blocks, so make sure you see them all: South Market, North Market and St Lawrence Hall. Just double-check the opening times so that you don't arrive when the market is closed.

See the 'Toronto' sign in Nathan Phillips Square

Nathan Phillips Square is home to the famous Toronto sign. When we went, it was being set up for the World Cup that's currently happening, hence the astroturf. If you're only spending 24 hours in Toronto, then it would be rude NOT to go and see the Toronto sign. It's located right in the heart of the city, so it cannot be missed!

Have a look at the Berczy Park Dog Fountain

It might not sound like such a big deal, but it's a lovely tribute to Toronto's four-legged friends. It's a fountain that incorporates 27 dog statues an 1 cat (if you know where to look). It's a three-tier fountain that sits right in the middle of the city, and it's most definitely something to behold and worth a little looksie-loo if you have some time in your day. Hands-down the cutest fountain EVER!
