Blogmas Day 23 | 7 Fun & Festive Things to Do On Christmas Eve
Welcome to Blogmas day 23! I'll be publishing a festive blog post every day on the run up to Christmas, so keep checking back for some brand new Christmassy content. Today, I'm going to be talking you through some fun and festive things to do on Christmas Eve this year, so let's dive right in!
1. Visit your local garden centre
While this might sound boring, garden centres are full of fun and interesting things to see and do. In fact, the header photo of this blog post was taken in a garden centre. The reindeer moved and sang Christmas songs. All the kids were loving it!
In and amongst all of the festive bits and bobs they sell, which will probably be discounted so close to Christmas, there are loads of seasonal flowers to buy, characters to look at and there might even be an opportunity for the little ones to meet Father Christmas.
As well as this, they always sell the most amazing cakes and scones, so I'm sure you'll find something seasonal to eat at the end of a very Christmassy day out. You could even enjoy a lovely hot chocolate to really get you in the mood.
2. Book to see the Christmas pantomime
It's never too late to go and see a Christmas pantomime. We went to one at the very start of the month, but that show carries on well into the New Year. Don't be afraid to book some last minute tickets at your local theatre and be prepared to get in the festive mood on Christmas Eve.
3. Attend local events in the area
We live in a village, so there are always little Christmas events that have been organised by the local Parish Council. But that's just in a village. I'm sure there will be loads of events put on in the city centres, either by the councils or by local shops and organisations. Oh, and keep and eye out for when the Coca Cola lorry comes to your area, because that's a sight to behold on its own, haha.
4. Look around a Christmas market
Most places these days will have a Christmas market, so choose one and have a gander. You don't have to buy anything, but it's a good chance to see some lights, listen to some festive sounds and just to be out and about in the hustle and bustle of Christmas.
I often miss heading into town to do the Christmas shopping. I'd always stop and have a coffee or some lunch out and just make a day of it. But visiting a Christmas market is a great way of feeling festive without going too overboard or getting too cold.
5. Take a walk around the neighbourhood to see the Christmas lights
This is something that's so simple that we've also been doing recently. It costs nothing. Just bring a flask of hot chocolate with you, get your walking boots on and go for a wander around the neighbourhood. Look at everyone's Christmas lights and enjoy them in all of their glory from the street, rather than while you're driving. There are some amazing ones around our village that we can't wait to see every year.
6. Do some last-minute baking
Baking is always a good idea at Christmas. It's cost-effective and very easy to do. It's also something the kids can get involved with. Not to mention you also have some amazing baked goods to eat and the whole house will smell incredible just in time for Christmas Day.
7. Play some board games
Back to the old days. We often used to play board games on Christmas Eve. They don't have to be Christmas-themed, but if you find the right ones that are fun, easy to play and don't take all day (like Monopoly), then you're all set for spending a cosy Christmas Eve indoors.
