Blogmas Day 14 | TESCO Finest Hot Chocolate Flakes: The Best Alternative to Hotel Chocolat?
Welcome to Blogmas Day 14. I'll be writing a Christmas blog post every day on the run up to Christmas Day, so keep coming back for festive content this month. Today, we're going to be talking hot chocolate, as it is the season for it!
We all love the Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser and I'm a sucker for the hot chocolate sachets that they sell to go along with it. But what if I told you that there's a more cost-effective alternative for those £15-per-box Hotel Chocolat sachets? TESCO have recently released some hot chocolate flakes.
While they only have four flavours (we didn't get the Black Forest flavour as I'm not a fan of Black Forest anyway), it could be the ultimate answer to your hot chocolate prayers this Christmas, without having to go all the way to a Hotel Chocolat chain. Let me take you through it.
The salted caramel one is absolutely to die for. I think it might actually be better than the one that Hotel Chocolat makes, dare I say it. Quite honestly, however, with the milk and dark chocolate flakes, I can't taste a real difference between the TESCO brand and the Hotel Chocolat ones.
The only difference is that TESCO uses slightly less cocoa in their hot chocolate. But when it comes down to taste, I don't notice a change. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that, for basic flavours, I'd just choose the TESCO hot chocolate flakes rather than the Hotel Chocolat ones.
That would be the case unless I wanted a specific flavour that TESCO doesn't do, which is quite likely. Take a look at some of my favourite Hotel Chocolat hot chocolate flavours in this blog post, if you're interested. Also, if you want to hear my thoughts on the Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser, then take a look at this blog post.
