The Velvetiser from Hotel Chocolat: Our Initial Thoughts
We got a Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser for Christmas from Tom's parents and we haven't stopped using it since Christmas Day night. It is an absolute game-changer if you're a hot chocolate lover or are partial to a sweet coffee.
It's unlike anything you can create using a coffee machine or even a milk frother with some traditional powered drinking chocolate. We were going to buy one ourselves, but we thought that it might be a bit of a gimmick, especially seeing as we have a very good bean-to-cup coffee machine at home.
But this is seriously worth the hype that you see online. The Velvetiser itself comes in three different colours: grey, white and copper. I'm glad that Tom's parents chose the grey one because it's much easier to keep clean, but it has the stylish copper element to it as well. What is there NOT to love?
Although, I guess you're reading this not just to hear about how well-made the Velvetiser is? Let me talk more about how it performs. Remember when I said it seemed like a bit of a gimmick? Well I was very much mistaken.
It has a mini whisk at the end of the contraption that sits at the bottom, but it also has a heating element inside it as well. Not only does this whisk up the milk, making it smooth and, as the name would suggest, velvety, but it also heats the liquid as it goes along.
All you do is fill the Velvetiser up with milk, up to the max line, and then tip the contents of the sachet into it. You don't have to bother mixing it in yourself, just turn it on using the button on the side and wait for the light to go out. Once it's done, you've got a ready-made, restaurant-quality hot chocolate, or sweet latte, with little-to-no effort at all.
Along with the Velvetiser, we were also given two boxes of sachets. One is a selection of hot chocolate flavours, whilst the other box contains different flavoured lattes. You can also buy whole bags of dried mix that you can put in the Velvetiser, if you like a particular flavour you've found in the sachet box.
I'm not sure if you can use any other mix in the Velvetiser. I'm not even sure if you can add things to it, like syrups, spirits or sweet spreads, like Biscoff. I think we'll just stick to using it how the instructions tell us to, using the mixes that are designed for use in the Velvetiser.
In conclusion, I think that you should definitely go and buy one of these Velvetisers from Hotel Chocolat, even if you were, like us, on the fence about it. It's like no other at-home hot chocolate I have ever had and, because it's real chocolate, it's better for you. Not to mention it also knocks you out, ready for bed.
