REVIEW | The Cakehouse*

A while ago, I was approached to write a review for The Cakehouse, a café come cake shop, and I jumped at the chance. Located in Kentish Town, London, this quaint coffee shop provides cakes, tea and coffee to the likes of Jude Law and Billie Piper, making this the ultimate all star hangout (although I didn't see anyone famous in the duration I was there, you guys might have more luck :) ).
I was impressed with the exterior of the café, the shrubbery was a lovely touch, tying in with the greenery of the park across the way. With a bus stop situated just over the road and an over ground station just down the street, its very accessible and hard to miss if you're local to the area.
The outdoor seating area is very chic and modern, with the added comfort of plush cushions (a detail almost any other coffee shop would usually overlook).

If you don't want to sit outside, there are 2 large picnic benches inside which could easily seat 6 (plus) people, and 1 small table which seats 2. The furniture inside also came complete with comfy cushions to make your experience more homely, a detail, I was happy to see, being carried through into the interior decor.

The decor inside is very much consistent with the outside, quirky and bang on trend, just my style really, the mix of pink, grey and white made the inside bright while the cushions added a lovely splash of colour.

I also loved the layout of the chalk board located above the counter, everything was clear and easy to read and very well presented, clearly a lot of effort had gone into the designing of that board, it wasn't like anything I'd seen in any other coffee shop before.

Now, I keep calling it a 'coffee shop' when in actual fact, they serve coffee and more, they have a marvellous array of teas on offer, whether you'd like it hot or cold the option was there. They also had the option for use of soya milk upon request which I thought was fabulous! You could also get your hot drinks decaffeinated if you so wish, so it really does cater for all tea and coffee types.

Its also very child friendly, with wide range of juices and soft drinks up for sale, there was also an entire fridge dedicated to ice cream if you'd fancy a snack on a hot summers day. There is also a variety of smoothies on offer as well as frappes. Not only do they sell sweet treats and fancy refreshments, they also sell savoury dishes, not forgetting all drinks and food are available to take out if you so wish!

The service is very quick and friendly, you don't have to stand around for your order either, which is great if you're staying in, all food and drink is brought to the table for you which is a bonus. Everything is presented nicely, to the froth on top of the lattes to the slither of orange on the side of your ice tea.

A lot of their cakes (when I went in) were either gluten, sugar or flour free which I thought was a wonderful idea, its healthier for the customers and its also useful if you're intolerant of one of those things, especially gluten. This café really does cater for the masses.

If you're not in the mood for a slice of melt-in-your-mouth, soft, yummy cake, you can choose a light bite, I opted for 2 macaroons, one vanilla, and the other strawberry :)

They also make bespoke cakes available for order, if you have a birthday, anniversary or christening, on the horizon and live near, in or around Kentish Town, its worth paying this little establishment a visit, especially if you want a cake which is full of flavour, light and freshly baked.

Overall, I'm very impressed with this shop, They've done a great job making use of what little space they have, the café is very light and airy, with a relaxing atmosphere, we got lost in time while we were in there, just chatting and watching the world go by through the window. Its in a lovely area of Kentish Town, full of Georgian town houses, off a main, busy road, its the ultimate hideaway.

I recommend this establishment highly, whether you have children you've just taken onto the park over the road, or just passing by on your way to work, its well worth a visit, if you pop in, say 'Lorna sent me' ;)
