4 Basic SEO Tips for Blogging
SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, is one of the best, and often most simple ways of increasing traffic to your blog and subsequent posts overall. It all sounds very complicated, but in fact, it's actually very straight forward. Once you start doing it, you won't go back. So here are some of my SEO tips for budding bloggers. Hopefully, you find this useful :)
Construct titles with both search engine performance & the reader in mind
The title of your blog post should contain some keywords that help it rank in search engines. This doesn't just include throwing in a load of relevant words that make no sense if they were to be put together in a sentence. In fact, it's a lot easier and simpler than that.
Give your posts a title that people are searching for on Google for example. For instance, if you're writing a post about makeup brushes, the most popular question with regards to that topic could be 'what are the best makeup brushes for foundation?' in which case, you could title your post; 'The Best Makeup Brushes for Foundation', thus drawing in a substantial amount of traffic.
Ensure the post is full of quality content
While it's true that longer blog posts will rank higher, it's more important that the quality of that content is high. The higher the quality, the more likely it is that it'll be shared on social media, thus increasing your ranking in search engines. But this doesn't mean that you can then compromise on the length of your articles. The longer it is, the higher it'll rank, but the content still has to contain the right amount of relevant keywords without being too spammy. Ensure the information is correct, easy to follow and relevant to the title of your post! Easy right?
Only include relevant keywords
Targeting the correct and relevant keywords is imperative to a higher ranking. Therefore, it's important that you only include keywords that are relevant to your niche or more specifically, the topic your post is about. One thing to keep in mind is to use broad words, which are slightly more competitive, but don't include too many. Balance them out with more obscure, unique keywords, but not so obscure in the sense that people never search for them.
Keep an eye on keyword popularity
It's also important to note that some keywords may need changing over weeks or months as its popularity changes. For example, the word 'tips' could be highly popular and competitive one week, drawing in loads of traffic, but the week after, its popularity could plummet massively to the point where people are no longer searching for it. Keep an eye on what keywords are doing well and which ones aren't. What's popular now might not be next month, so watch out and swap and change when required!
