How To Effectively Organise Your Time

I always find these sorts of posts very useful, especially while I was at university. But this post isn't just for students who are finding it hard to juggle their time as the academic year draws to a close. This is for anyone who feels like their time management needs to be improved upon. You don't have to follow each and every one of these tips, but take a few that best suit circumstances.

Find Out Where You're Wasting Your Time

One of the first things you can do, is to pin point exactly where your time could be better used elsewhere. Do you spend more time scrolling through social media or texting your friends? Instead of texting all the time, arrange to meet up with them and make some memories for example.

Don't be cooped up inside and on your own all day. Make some changes for the better. What could you have achieved in the time it took for you to flick through all of the photos on your Instagram feed? Allocate time more wisely and try not to waste too much of it.

Have Some Goals in Mind

Set a few realistic goals to hit for the end of the week. You could even set yourself daily goals if you really want to get motivated. Estimate how much time it would take for you to do each thing, and change your behaviour in order to complete the goal you've set. Try prioritising tasks, you'll find the most important things will get done first, giving you some peace of mind, which can also hep to reduce stress.

Use Time Management Tools

Even if you use the Google calendar or one which is installed on your phone or laptop, calendars are perfect for reminding you to do things. You can set up nudges so you don't forget to do certain things or see different people. It's not just for work use. If, like me, you prefer good old-fashioned paper diaries, then invest in a Filofax, they're a life saver and so easy to get old of. I'm always using mine for lots of different things, from dinner with friends, to meetings at work, it's all logged in my diary, as well as in my electronic calendar.

Establish a Routine

This is quite important, it will enable you to stick to the time management rules and goals you've set yourself. Start as you mean to go on and try not and let things slip. Once you've done something a few times, you'll grasp it soon enough and eventually, you'll start to do things without even thinking about it. Once you get to this stage, it can be very hard to fall out of your routine, which will be massively beneficial to you in the long run.
