A Vintage Dining Experience at Fourteas Café in Stratford-upon-Avon
Last weekend, my boyfriend and I went to Stratford-upon-Avon (something you can read about here) and while we were there, we visited the cutest little cafe called Fourteas (get it? Eh? Eh?). As you can probably guess, it was decorated in the style of the 1940's particularly around the time of the Second World War. There were strips on all the windows (which were put on to stop them from shattering if hit during an air raid), the menus were ration books, and you could even buy an afternoon tea kit packed up inside an old gas mask box!
Union flags adorned the walls and tables, with Union flag bunting hanging from the wooden beams - you couldn't really get more patriotic! Old photos were carefully positioned on window sills and the tea cups and saucers were truly fitting. The daffodils, thrown in for good measure, provided some colour and enabled the Union flags situated next to them, to pop with pride!
The sofas were carefully decorated with Union flag cushions and wartime posters were pinned on the walls - Keep Calm and Carry On. Even the tea and coffee were kept on an old style bookcase, on top of which sat an old wireless radio. The coffee machine was placed on a solid oak table, with whole cakes and pie slices located in front of it.
The music which rang through the place truly matched the era. I felt like I was in 1940 drinking coffee and eating sandwiches, so for that they really did a remarkable job. Even the staff were dressed for the occasion, with girls in wartime frocks and the lads in suit trousers, waist coats and bow ties, they really left no stone unturned in making the establishment legitimately feel like a 1940's tea room. Bravo I say!

I opted for a skinny latte, while Tom (my boyfriend) went for an orange juice! The latte was deliciously smooth, with tasty coffee aromas coming through in just the right amount. Often, I find some lattes to be rather overpowering, so much so I'll find it difficult to properly enjoy it. But this was beautifully made, topped up with milk that been frothed to velvety perfection.
In terms of food, I ordered a BLT sandwich, coming with thick cut smoked ham, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise on fresh granary bread. As you can see, the sandwich was cut up into good old fashioned triangles. I found it somewhat of a struggle to eat it all, but with a couple of breaks here and there I managed to get it all down me! It would have been rude not to, right?
Meanwhile, Tom went for a sausage sandwich, complete with brown sauce, succulent, locally sourced sausages and fresh, soft white bread. The menu is stuffed with options, meaning there's something on there for every dietary requirement. They even have a club sandwich on the menu, called 'The Churchill Club' - how cool is that?!

If you're ever in Stratford-upon-Avon, PLEASE give this place a visit, even if you just nip in for a coffee! You won't regret it.
