Reasons Why You Should Start Running Early in the Morning

If you're a regular runner who enjoys hitting the pavements for your daily exercise, then you'll know that your general day will involve trying to squeeze in a jogging session, no matter how busy your day might be. Often, it's far more favourable to go for a run early in the morning, but why should you when you can get another hour or so in bed?

Well I'll be talking you through some of the benefits of running early in the morning - you might find this time of day more favourable by the time you get to then end of this blog post ;) Let's get into it, shall we?

You'll feel more productive throughout the rest of the day

The early bird catches the worm and that's very true if you start your day off as productively as possible. For me, running before work means I've been able to tick something off of my to-do list before the bulk of my day has even started.

This helps to keep me motivated throughout the rest of the day, feeling almost like Wonder Woman, haha. It makes me feel like I can do almost anything, no matter how small it might be. Three loads of washing? No problem! Bathroom needs cleaning? I got it! Food shop needs doing? I'm on my way!

But why does running early in the morning make you feel like that? Well according to Lifeline 24, exercise gives you both physical and mental stimulation, making you feel more productive that you would have done if you'd have stayed in bed. Not only does it increase how alert you are, but it also gives you a routine to stick to which also makes you feel on track and in control of your life in general.

It'll kick-start your metabolism

There are two things that could happen when we eat food: it's consumed by the body and used as a source of energy or it'll be stored as fat. Naturally, if you're wanting to lose weight by running, the last thing you want to be happen is for your body to store your food as a fat reserve. By running before you eat breakfast, your body will use that food to make up for the energy it's lost rather than storing it as fat.

Not only that, but your metabolism will be boosted meaning that your body will burn calories more easily throughout the course of the day. This also means that you'll feel more hungry after you've been running so you'll be far less likely to skip the most important meal of the day - breakfast!

It's been proven to boost your mood

Running has a positive impact on your mental health. Not only does it release endorphins, making you feel happier, but it also en-stills a sense of achievement and self-worth. Running outdoors also helps with this as you'll feel more free as you're exposed to fresh air. The earlier you go out, the more you'll notice as you'll be more alert than if you went out later in the day.

Sleep quality will improve

Studies have shown that people who run early in the morning spend more time in the deep sleep stage than those who go running later in the day. It's also been proven that upholding a solid routine helps one to sleep better, also, which is why you should look to take up running early in the morning as opposed to in the afternoon or even the evening. This is because you'll be more likely to pick a time and stick to it rather than continually put it off throughout the day, which could mean you don't go running at all as you've talked yourself out of it.
