46 Things to Ask a Wedding Venue Before You Book it
We've booked our wedding venue and the church, finally! How exciting is that? I won't tell you when it is, but you won't have too long to wait for some wedding and marriage content. Anyway, there have been a few things we've learnt throughout the process that we wouldn't have known prior to starting our wedding venue journey. So I wondered about writing a blog post all about things you should ask a wedding venue before committing, because it's something I would have liked to know before we started on our venture. But you live and you learn!
- How long can I hold a date for, provisionally?
- How many guests can you accommodate both in the daytime and in the evening?
- Is the venue licensed for civil ceremonies?
- Is the venue available for exclusive hire?
- Who is the point of contact on the run up to the wedding?
- Do I have to use recommended suppliers or can I go elsewhere?
- Is there onsite accommodation?
- Will there be enough parking for everyone?
- What time can be the venue be accessed?
- Is there somewhere for us to get ready in the morning?
- What are your changeover plans?
- Are you flexible with the timings of the day?
- Is it possible to get married outside?
- Do you have any decor restrictions?
- Do you allow fireworks?
- Is there a menu tasting option available within the catering cost?
- Are you able to cater for vegetarians, vegans and people with dietary requirements?
- Is there an in-house catering team?
- Is linen and crockery included in the venue hire/package price?
- Is there a cake-cutting/corkage fee?
- Can we bring our own alcohol?
- Do you provide the utensils and cake stand?
- How many people can be seated at one table?
- What are your evening food options?
- Is there room for a live band or a DJ setup?
- Do you have a bar menu with prices?
- Does the bar accept cash and/or card?
- Are we able to plug an iPhone or an iPod into a sound system?
- What time will the evening reception need to finish?
- Do you have disabled access?
- Where are your toilets and how many are there?
- Is there somewhere we'll be able to store our wedding gifts securely?
- Can you operate on minimum spend rather than minimum numbers? (This should just be based on price per head, i.e. food and drink, and not on accommodation, music, ceremony etc)
- How much is the initial deposit?
- When is the final payment due?
- Can we pay off the full balance in instalments?
- Is VAT included in the price?
- Are there any additional extra costs, like cleaners etc
- Is your quote subject to change with regards to inflation?
- Is your quote a fixed price?
- If it is a fixed price, can that be written into the contract before we sign it?
- What is your cancellation policy?
- Are there any venue restrictions?
- Do you have public liability insurance?
- Is wedding insurance something we would have to put in place or can you do that for us?
- Is there an option to change some elements to the package on the run up to the wedding?
