7 Reasons Why We Chose to Have a Spring Wedding

The idea of a spring wedding has always been dreamy to me, more so than a summer wedding. Summer is hot and sweaty and you're not guaranteed nice weather anyway. Spring is the time of year when nature wakes up again.

It symbolises new life and fresh beginnings, which is quite apt when you think about a wedding and everything that brings with it afterwards. You might be wondering why we chose March as the month to get married, so I'm going to address that here today :)

1. All of the flowers are blooming again

All of the flowers and plants awake from their winter slumber, which is a beautiful time of year. It's the season of snowdrops and bluebells, daffodils and tulips. It's a time for beautiful pops of colour and pastel tones, all mixed into one giant colourful explosion. Why wouldn't you want to have these freshly-bloomed flowers in your pictures or throughout your wedding venue?

2. It's off-season

Don't get me wrong, one of the biggest benefits of choosing a spring wedding is because it's considered to be off-season. Therefore, it's cheaper, slightly. You'll find that, not only the venue is cheaper, but some of your suppliers will charge a lesser fee for having it at that time of year. It's definitely something worth considering if you want to save a bit of cash.

3. The days are getting longer

The days are no longer short. At this time of year, it's not getting dark until around 7pm, which is a great improvement on winter and Greenwich Meantime. We're approaching British Summertime, and we'll be there before you know it, especially as we spend spring enjoying the lighter evenings and longer days. What better for a wedding?

4. It's not usually too cold

Although it could do anything in March, it's more likely that it won't snow or be freezing cold. Where it might still be chilly at this time of year, don't let the weather put you off choosing a spring date. Even during the summertime, you could have wind and rain.

The weather is unpredictable in the UK, so don't let it dictate the time of year you choose, because you could be paying a whole lot more for the same thing you could have had a few months earlier, but for a lot less money.

5. You get to use pastel colours, unapologetically

Spring is associated with pastel colours, colours that you might not get away with using at any other time of year. A spring wedding the perfect opportunity to incorporate a pastel colour palette into your day, without it looking out of place or like you're wishing it was one season when you're actually in another.

6. Spring symbolises new beginnings

I've already touched on this, but spring is all about new life and fresh starts. Getting married is starting a new leaf with your partner, and that's something I think is apt when getting married in spring. Everything it symbolises also runs alongside the idea and concept of marriage, so for us, it was the perfect time of year to tie the knot.

7. Food is made up of fresh veggies & light produce

The plants are starting to grow again after a long winter break, and the same thing goes for food produce. Spring brings with it light and fresh veggies that can be enjoyed and incorporated in your wedding food. Whether you enjoy giving a nod to spring with some lamb or would rather enjoy some seasonal veggies, add a hint of spring to your wedding breakfast is you're planning a wedding around this time of year - that's exactly what we did.
