8 Things That Should Be On Your To-Do List As a Maid (Or Man) of Honour
What an honour - you've been asked to be the bride's Maid of Honour, or Man of Honour! What a responsibility to have in someone's big day. But don't let the pressure get to you. There's no need to stress about your newfound responsibilities, provided that you're doing the following things. Here's what should be on your to-do list as a Maid, or Man, of Honour.
1. Regularly check-in with the bridal party
No matter how big or small the bridal party might be, it's crucial that you're checking in with everyone and keeping them in the loop. Whether it's to do with the Hen party or the wedding day itself, the bridal party need to be in the know every step of the way, and it's up to you to keep everyone in check, from start to finish.
2. Help the bride find her wedding dress
It's absolutely crucial that the bride has her Maid of Honour, or Man of Honour, there with her while she chooses her wedding dress. Next to her mum, you're probably the only other person who's opinion she values when it comes to picking the perfect gown. Be honest with your feedback and make sure she's choosing something that she looks stunning in.
3. Be in charge of important tasks
I know what you're thinking. Important tasks could literally involve anything. But that's the whole point. You should be there to try and take some of the weight off the bride's shoulders. She's going to have enough on her plate.
So try and alleviate some of the stress and pressure by taking on some additional jobs. From asking for updates from suppliers to helping her source the perfect wedding favours, take on some of the tasks that the bride might need help with.
4. Be the point of contact
As I've just said, the bride is going to be super busy, so she likely won't have time to answer all of the phone calls and text messages that the bridal party might send her. As such, as the Maid, or man, of Honour, make yourself available to anyone who might wish to know more about the big day. Your job is simple; answer people's enquiries and suggestions, so the bride doesn't have to.
5. Plan the Hen do
The Hen do, or the Hen party as some people also call it, is a fun day, or night, out that is separate from the wedding, but gives everyone the chance to get together, on the bride's side (and any close female relatives, traditionally, on the side of the groom), before the big day itself.
This is especially useful if people haven't met before. Anyway, as the Maid of Honour, it's your responsibility to get everyone together and plan a fun event that will get everyone involved. Also, make sure it revolves around the bride and her future groom.
There are loads of great activities you can do, including asking and answering Mr & Mrs questions, among other things like card games. Do some research if you're looking to plan the perfect Hen do for the bride.
6. Always offer to lend a hand
No matter how big or small the tasks might be, you need to let the bride know that you're always there to help with anything. Whether she needs you to collect the wedding cake or to help bring some decorations into the venue the day before the wedding, you should be on hand at the drop of a hat to help out the bride on the run up to her big day.
7. Bring items to the bride on the day
It might be that, on the day of the wedding, things will be delivered to the bride, whether it be the bouquets or a gift from her future husband. As the Maid of Honour, it's your job to head to the groom and his party or to the entrance to the venue to collect any items that might be waiting for her that she needs before she walks down the aisle.
8. Help the bride get into her dress
Perhaps one of the most important things you'll need to do on the big day to help the bride, as her Maid, or man, of Honour, is to help the bride into her dress. Once she has stepped into the dress, she'll likely needs someone on hand who will be there to zip up the dress and do up the buttons, if there are any. Take another look at her dress just to make sure that it all looks amazing before she walks down the aisle, and you're good to go!
