Everything I Loved in October
October has come and gone already. I can't quite believe that we've just put all the clocks back as well. Where is the time going? Summer was only five minutes ago, right?! But as sad as I am that summer is over, I do secretly love the 'ber' months, and that includes October.
I'm definitely a sucker for a jumper, a hot beverage and a fluffy blanket, so I'm into my happy months now. But as usual, at the end of every month, let me tell you what I've loved throughout October. From a trip to Italy to completing our kitchen renovation, here are my October favourites:
Visiting Rome & Venice
This month, we visited Rome and Venice. We went for a week and loved every minute of it. While I haven't written a blog post about our trip, there are some blog posts relating to our Italian trip where you can see even more pictures of our holiday. You can even check out my Instagram Stories and my gallery for some more photographs.
But it was a wonderful break. It was very much needed because we had just finished a huge home renovation project where every weekend was taken up with early mornings and DIY graft (as we've done all of the renovations ourselves). It was just a breath of fresh air to take some time out for ourselves and to just sit and relax and enjoy the moment after six months of hard work.
Going to the theatre with my mum
I went to the theatre with my mum this month. But it wasn't for the typical theatre performance. If you've ever heard of a many called Richard Shepherd, you'll know that he's a renowned, accomplished pathologist. He did a talk at our local theatre where he spoke about his work and how autopsies are done in the real world.
He also delved into how autopsies can help the police gather evidence. It wasn't for the faint hearted, but it was something that I found so interesting. While an autopsy involves people who have died, a body can uncover many secrets, especially in this day and age.
This is what can put murderers behind bars, even after many years. I learnt some things that I never knew with regards to the human body and what happens to it, gradually, when the heart and brain stops working. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I really did find it fascinating.
Attending a family birthday party
I don't know why I didn't take any pictures of this party, but it was for my aunt's 60th birthday. The whole family was there, even my in-laws, so it was a big occasion. It was just fun and relaxing, with good food and some decent music. It was nice to catch up with the family as we only see that side every 6 months or so. It was a lovely party and a nice way to start the weekend.
Completing our kitchen renovation
I have been banging on about our kitchen renovation for some time now, mainly because it's taken that long to complete. We do all of our renovations ourselves, which is why it often takes longer than it would have done had we had kitchen fitters in. But it's finally done and I am in love with it. From the colour of the walls to the solid wooden doors we chose, it's all come together beautifully and I couldn't be happier.
Using Halloween mugs again
Halloween is tomorrow, and while I'm still using the Halloween mugs currently, it's something I've loved throughout the month of October. I think I enjoy using the Halloween mugs more because you only have a month or so to enjoy them. Whereas the Christmas mugs will be coming out in the next week or so, haha. But how cute is my latest mug?! This ghost mug was from Starbucks!
Autumnal nails
For our Italian holiday, I decided to have my nails done. The colour I chose was this deep, reddy-pinky colour. I thought it was perfect for both our trip to Italy and to wear into the coming weeks as October went on. I have written a blog post showcasing my nails here, if you'd like to look at them in more detail.
A fresh take on my favourite argyle jumper
You might remember the red and oatmeal argyle jumper I bought a month ago? Well this is exactly the same, but with a different colour combination. It's only just recently been released, so when I saw it in the shop, I just had to have it.
Like with the nails, I've written a dedicated blog post showing you this gorgeous jumper in more detail, so you can read that here if you'd like :) BUT I have lived in this jumper since the day I bought it, hence why you're seeing it in my monthly favourites blog post for October!
