A Review | Lunch at Bill's

I know. Bill's isn't exactly new, but the Nottingham branch recently underwent some refurbishments, and so we decided to check out both the new decor and the new menu. Needless to say, we've never had a bad meal there...ever. Overall, we're generally quite impressed by Bill's (aside from their breakfast pancakes, but we won't go into that now). Anyway, here's how our recent trip went, along with what we thought to the food, service, ambience and the snazzy decor!

The Restaurant, Atmosphere & Service

Like I've previously said, we've generally been quite impressed by the overall atmosphere and service we have received from Bill's over the past few years, with this visit being no exception. The front of house was friendly enough, where we were met by not one, but two members of smiling staff. From that point on, the service was quick, pleasant enough and overall, we had no problems.

The restaurant's decor hadn't changed too much. If anything, they have less seating now than they did pre-renovation, having had a change around of some furniture and installed a seating area around the bar, solely for enjoying an alcoholic beverage as opposed to a full blown meal out. I feel like the space could have been utilised a little more economically, but the new decor was stylish and fresh, with a highly summery, almost jungle inspired theme.

The atmosphere was fairly chilled, I didn't feel uncomfortable, cramped or like anyone was eavesdropping on our conversation. The noise was consistently at low level, making it a relaxed meal out for everyone, not just young couples, despite the candles and silverware. It's also incredibly reasonable price-wise, so in my eyes, it's a win-win.

The Food

Mini Cumberland Sausages - with honey & grain mustard

These sausages are absolutely delectable. We bought these 'for the table', sharing them while we waited for our main meals. They're mouthwateringly delicious, with the optimum balance of both sweet and savoury tastes, it perfectly complements the spiciness of these thick glazed mini Cumberland sausages. Although these were on the menu before the renovation, we were actually happy to see that they were still a part of their everyday menu.

Chicken Green Curry - with sugar snap peas, red peppers, mint, spring onions, chilli & coconut rice

Tom, my better half, loves his spicy food, and when we go to Bill's, he'll almost always go for this dish. So again, not exactly a new meal to accompany their new refurb. But this beautifully, professionally presented curry provided just the right level of heat, with fresh chillies giving it a noticeable kick. You also get a generous amount of curry, complete with a perfect little mound of coconut rice garnished with herbs and a wedge of lime.

Halloumi Burger - chargrilled red peppers, hummus, red onion, sweet chilli sauce & pea shoots on a sesame seed bun served with garlic & lemon aioli & rosemary salted fries

This is my go-to at Bill's, again, not new to the menu. But to be honest, I'm not complaining because I'd have been gutted if they decided to slash this from the menu. The only new thing on this burger was the olive (which I'm not a fan of anyway), but the rest of it was pretty much the same. The bread was soft, but still kept its structure despite holding together hummus, roasted red peppers, sweet chilli jam and two slabs of halloumi cheese. The fries were great too, so all in all, it was a delightful meal and I enjoyed every bite!
