5 Reasons Why We Like to Use the Airport Lounge When We Travel Transatlantic
Airport lounges are something we all know about, but we rarely give it a second thought, mainly because people think that it's pricey. It's actually more affordable than you might think. There are loads of reasons as to why we will always splash out on an airport lounge when travelling transatlantic, so here are just five of them:
1. It's calm & quiet
An airport lounge is great because it's not jammed packed and it's not filled with children. This usually makes it a far more relaxing pre-flight experience, when compared to scrambling for seats in the departure lounge with everyone else. I'd totally recommend visiting an airport lounge if you're a nervous flyer, for example. I always consider it the calm before the storm, giving you some much-needed downtime before a long flight.
2. It's not as expensive as you might have thought
When someone says "airport lounge", pound signs will immediately start going. But they're not actually as expensive as you think they are. For us, it was £39 each for the No. 1 lounge at Heathrow's Terminal 3. It might sound costly, but when you consider the price for two people to have a drink and some dinner in an airport restaurant, you're really not that far off the £80 you're spending on an airport lounge. Not only do you get all the food and drink, but an airport lounge is generally more comfortable and less hectic.
3. It has its own loos & showers
I find that toilets in airports are very few and far between They're always really far away, they're packed and they smell. The great thing about airport lounges is that they come with their own loos and showers. They're better looked after, they feel less clinical and you can always get in without having to queue. Also, if you fancy a freshen up, then there are also some showers you can use, if you want to.
4. Food & drink options are extensive
You might not think that the food and drink you get is worth the price of an airport lounge, but there's actually plenty to choose from. It also changes with the time of day. If you have an early morning flight, the food options will be breakfasty, the lunch options will be savoury-but-light and the dinner options will include more hot food, as well as cheese and crackers and some little puddings.
The bar is also completely stocked with any kind of drink you can think of. The only thing you have to pay extra for is the champagne. However, the proescco is included in the price, along with a wide range of other alcoholic drinks and cocktails. I had three Aperol Spritzes while I was there, along with two glasses of prosecco. The world is your oyster in an airport lounge, which is great for the money!
5. The chairs & sofas are super comfortable
If you've ever sat for hours in a departure lounge, you'll know that the seating is hard and comfortable. It's not somewhere you want to sit for a long period of time. However, the airport lounges come equipped with soft and comfortable armchairs and sofas, so you don't have to put up with the hard plastic seats outside, in the departure lounges.
