3 Foods to Avoid Before a Long Haul Flight

Long haul flights are both exciting and exhausting. As such, you want to make sure that your experience is as smooth and as comfortable as possible. But something you might not have thought about, aside from a skincare routine, is what you put in your mouth beforehand. So what should you be avoiding pre-long haul flight? Let's take a closer look:

1. Alcohol

This might sound like one that's hard to do, especially if you're going on holiday, but I would strongly suggest avoiding alcohol before a long haul flight. The number one reason for this is that alcohol is a dehydrator. Cabin air pressure is low anyway, so you could just be making things worse, more so when you get off the other side.

Secondly, alcohol goes to the head quicker when you're up in the air, so drinking just before you board your flight isn't the best idea in that respect either. Not to mention, if you're someone who gets jolly, then it could impact other people's flying experience, and you don't want that. My advice? Just avoid it until you get off the plane at the other side.

2. Fast food or junk food

Believe it or not, a greasy meal before a long haul flight isn't the best thing to do if you want to remain as comfortable as possible throughout the duration of your travels. Junk food, like alcohol, contains a lot of sodium, which will dehydrate you.

Also, the processed ingredients are hard to digest at the best of times, and even more difficult when you're thousands of feet up in the air. You could end up experiencing indigestion or even tummy upsets while in-flight, so do yourself a favour and avoid heavy junk food before you fly.

3. Nuts

Although considered a tasty snack, I would avoid eating nuts before and during a flight, just in case someone has a nut allergy. The last thing you want to do is trigger someone. You might even find that they do not sell nuts of any kind past the security gates, so they'll likely be difficult to get hold of anyway, and you certainly won't be served any in-flight.
