4 Tips for Travelling to Ireland On the Ferry

Travelling to Ireland seems like a very simple venture, more so if you're going there by plane. However, there is another way to get there, and that' by ferry. I have only ever been on one ferry in my life, and that was nearly 20 years ago and we were going to France. However, this time, we went all the way to Ireland, with our car, to be there for my brother's wedding. So here's what I have learnt through travelling to Ireland on the ferry - enjoy!

1. Bring your passport

It might sound silly, but you are, technically, going abroad, so make sure you bring your passport. This is especially the case if you plan on driving over there. While you might get away with just bringing a driving license, I would strongly recommend you take your official passport with you for good measure.

2. Be there at least an hour before departure time

It's advised on your ticket as well, to be there an hour before it sets sail. I would say that you should be there an hour beforehand at the very latest. There's a lot you need to do before you actually get on the ferry and sit down, especially if you have a car. I would say an hour beforehand isn't early enough, more so if you hate rushing and stressing. Also, you never know what the traffic is going to be like on the way over there.

3. Take travel tablets if you get motion sickness

I know these ferries are massive, and while some people will tell you that they can't feel the sway of the ship, people like me, who gets severe motion sickness, can feel every movement. If you're particularly prone to motion sickness, then take a travel tablet to be on the safe side.

4. Take advantage of duty free

You're going to be on the ferry for the best part of three hours. So you need something fun and exciting to do, and that includes looking through the duty free shops. There are loads of different things available that you can buy and enjoy, from alcohol and chocolate to makeup and perfume. Have a good rummage to pass the time - you never know what you might find.
