Books I Want to Read This Summer

Today's post is a little different, but it should still be a fun one :) I want to share with you all the books I plan to read this Summer, and hopefully I might persuade you to give a few a read as well. You might even have a copy stashed in your carry on already for your Summer holidays, but just in case you don't, here are some that I thought I would thoroughly enjoy (I haven't read all of them yet though).

*PLEASE NOTE: I have quoted parts of the blurbs for all of these books, all of which are in quotation marks. I have labelled them as 'blurbs' so as to indicate they weren't written by me. I have not claimed them as my own work. For more information about copyright, please see the 'Important Pages and Disclaimers' column along the side. No copyright infringement intended. SOPHIE KINSELLA 'A DSIRABLE RESIDENCE'

If you love writers such as Lindsey Kelk, you will love Kinsella, her stories aren't too dissimilar but I feel they touch on more sophisticated themes. Where 15-16 year old me loved Kelk, 19-20 year old me is loving Kinsella. I started reading this not too long ago and just haven't really found the time yet to pick it back up again although I want to.
Instead of telling you what I've read so far and potentially spoiling the story, I'm going to quote you some of the blurb instead :)
"Liz and Jonathan are in trouble. They can't sell their old house, and they've already moved into their new one. Stuck with two mortgages, mounting debts and a sulky teenage daughter, their smart estate agent Marcus presents the perfect solution...but Marcus soon finds himself more involved with Liz than he'd ever intended..."
Scandalous right? I'm enjoying the book so far and tension is starting to build. It definitely has the reader hooked from the very beginning.
SOPHIE KINSELLA 'COCKTAILS FOR THREE'
Like I said, Kinsella is one of my favourite authoresses along with Jill Mansell, but I find myself more drawn to Kinsella's works than Kelk's or Mansell's, I've read numerous books by Kinsella so I'm used to her style and enjoy it, so when I see a book she's written that I haven't read or didn't know about, I buy it straight away, this was one of those books. I got it from Sainsburys for about £3.99, I haven't read any of it yet but its a pretty slim book so I could probably read it within a day or two, especially seeing as I have a lot more free time. Let me quote you some of the blurb...
"Three great friends, smart and successful, meet for cocktails and gossip once a month...Then one night a conversation with the cocktail waitress sets in train an extraordinary chain of events which will affect all three women's lives. Will their friendship survive?"
Lets hope so! I'll report back when I've read it, who knows, it could end up in my next monthly favourites? ;)
CAITLIN MORAN 'HOW TO BUILD A GIRL'
I was given this as a birthday present back in March and I just haven't read it yet, but it's definitely one I want to read before the Summer ends. It seems pretty popular at the moment and I can't wait to give it a good read. Here's what the blurb says...
"My name's Johanna Morrigan. I'm fourteen, and I've just decided to kill myself. I don't really want to die, of course! I just need to kill the old me, and build a new girl. Dolly Wilde will be everything I want to be, and more! But as with all the best coming-of-age stories, it doesn't exactly go to plan..."
It sounds pretty sombre but at the same time, it sounds really interesting. How does someone build a new version of themselves? Its The Sunday Times' number ONE bestseller, so it must be a heck of a good read!
JOHN GREEN 'PAPER TOWNS'
I have started reading this one, I'm on page 61 out of 305, I didn't stop reading it because I was bored, I started reading it back in April, before intense exam revision basically, and I just haven't read anymore since, but I'm going to try and finish it within the next day or two as I really want to read it before I see the film. So far, it's very mysterious and I can't wait to figure out what Margo's secret is, there's only one way to find out, and that's to read on :) Again, I will quote you some of the blurb and leave a video to the movie trailer below for you to watch as well :)
"Quentin Jacobson has always loved Margo from afar, so when she climbs though his window to summon him on an all-night road trip of revenge he cannot help but follow. But the next morning, Q turns up at school and Margo doesn't. She's left clues to her disappearance...and everything leads to one unavoidable question: Who is the real Margo?"
Mystery after mystery right? Watch the trailer...
JOHN GREEN 'AN ABUNDANCE OF KATHERINES'
I've been a massive fan of John Green since (obviously) reading 'The Fault in our Stars' which was one hell of an emotional roller coaster, so I thought I would give this book a go as well as 'TFIOS' and 'Paper Towns'. Again, I haven't started reading this but I'm sure I will before the Summer says goodbye for another year. Here's what the blurb says...
"When it comes to relationships, Colin Singleton's type is girls named Katherine. And when it comes to girls named Katherine, Colin is always getting dumped. Nineteen times, to be exact...Colin is on a mission to prove The Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability, which he hopes will predict the future of any relationship, avenge Dumpees everywhere, and finally win him the girl".
WILLIAM STYRON 'SOPHIE'S CHOICE'
There's a film adaption if this book, I've seen bits of it but not all of it, its set in Nazi Germany and has a heart breaking twist in the middle. I haven't read the book yet but obviously plan to. The film looked extremely well directed and produced and so I tracked down the book, again, I'll give you a snippet of the blurb...
"Stingo, an inexperienced twenty-two-year-old...takes us back to the Summer of 1947...he meets Nathan, a fiery Jewish intellectual; and Sophie, a beautiful and fragile Polish Catholic. Stingo...arrives at the dark core of Sophie's past: her memories of pre-war Poland, the concentration camp and - the essence of her terrible secret - her choice."

Take a look...
I hope you enjoyed this post and I also hope it encouraged you to pick up a book or two this Summer, even if it isn't one I plan to read. I think reading is incredibly important, especially in an age of technology. I was a massive book nerd as a child, but then again, I didn't grow up with iPads and iPhones, just a portable CD player, 4 channels on the telly and dial-up internet, so books were my main source of entertainment. I love to get lost in a good, well written book, and I think everyone, no matter what your age, should experience the same :)
HAPPY READING GUYS, I will see you on Sunday with a brand new post for you all! X
