5 Feel-Good Movies for Bad Days

It doesn't mater how much of a bad day you've had, a feel-good film always acts as a welcome distraction to the stresses of everyday life. Not only that, but it can fill our brains with a degree of happiness and positivity, meaning we'll once again feel relaxed and content! Here are some of the films I like to watch when I'm having a bad day, or just feeling anxious about things that are happening in my life. Hopefully they do the trick for you as well!

Little Miss Sunshine

This film is absolutely hilarious! Basically, a nuclear family are on the brink of financial hardship and have a young daughter called Olive (Abigail Breslin) who has always wanted to be a beauty Queen having watched them saunter down catwalks, caked in fake tan and  stuck with false lashes, who are also extremely skinny! For the most part, this doesn't really affect Olive's self-esteem, but cracks eventually begin to show. It's her grandfather (Alan Arkin) who makes her realise that she doesn't need to change how she looks in order to be beautiful.

So with the family on board, they take a road trip to a beauty contest in an old VW camper van, taking several days to get there! They go through a remarkable amount on the way down there and things don't always go as planned. With twists and turns along the way, this film makes you realise that it doesn't matter what people think, you should just love your family and have fun in life, regardless of anything else!

About Time

I remember going to see this at the cinema with my mum and absolutely loving it! Basically, when Tim (Domhnall Gleeson) turns 21, his father (Bill Nighy) reveals a huge secret...the men in the family are able to travel back in time by standing in a small, dark space, closing their eyes and thinking back to a time they were once in. In order to go back, they needed to have been there in the first place - so the thing is, you wouldn't be able to go back to a time you have no real memory of.

So naturally, Tim uses this new-found power to get himself a girlfriend, and after many failed attempts, he finally manages to manipulate a situation which allows him to meet a woman called Mary (Rachel McAdams), but his journey isn't always plain sailing. Directed by Richard Curtis (who also did Love Actually), this movie really does make you feel all tingly inside! Time travel, finding love and Bill Nighy? What's not to love?

Bridesmaids

When Annie (Kristen Wiig) is asked by her childhood best friend (Maya Rudolph) to be her Bridesmaid, a series of very unfortunate (yet very funny) events begin to occur which gets in the way of her ability to be both a friend and the perfect Bridesmaid. Tasked with organising everything from a Hen party to a trip to Las Vegas, Annie's life starts to go pear shaped, therefore making it hard for her to juggle friendships and her own love life.

With a wonderfully talented cast, including Melissa McCarthy, you'll be laughing your way through the entire movie! Although it differs slightly from the last two films I've mentioned, this is a hilarious rom-com filled with cringe-worthy, stomach-turning, yet heart warming twists and turns! This is the perfect film for watching with your girlfriends on a Saturday night with a bottle of wine and box of choccies!

School of Rock

One of Jack Black's classic's, School of Rock will have you grinning from ear to ear throughout. Whether you're in it for the lifestyle of a failed rock star or want to see a group of ten-year-olds rocking out as amazing real-life musicians, there's something in it for everyone. Joan Cusack, voice of Jessie in Toy Story, also makes a comical appearance as the headmistress of the prim and proper private school where most of the film takes place. This movie will have you laughing your head off and will well and truly make you forget about the crummy day you've had.

Mamma Mia

No one can resist a bit of ABBA, myself included. So when this film appears on the telly, we just have to give it a watch. Now, if you've never seen it before, it's important to understand that you may not spend the entirety of it sat on your bum! You'll end up getting up and having a good old dance to it as well, so get your best frocks on and a pair of your favourite dancing shoes and shake your booty to the lovable, classic sound of the 70's. Oh, and there's a bit of a multi-strand love story going off as well, but lets face it...we're all really in it for the music!
