A Self-Care Checklist

"The seeds of today are the flowers of tomorrow" - very fitting for the situation at hand around the world. Doing our bit now means we can reap the rewards later down the line, and the fruit will be that much sweeter as a result. Where this applies to simply staying at home as much as possible over the next few weeks, it also applies to us and our mental well-beings.

It's just as important now to ensure we're happy in ourselves, despite the loneliness of self-isolation and social distancing, as it was before this all happened. To help you practice self-care over this uncertain, stressful time period, I have compiled a list of things you could do in order to look after yourself right now. See how many of these you can tick off!

1. Get plenty of shut eye
2. Eat well
3. Practice good hygiene (including dental)
4. Wear clothes you like and feel comfortable in
5. Take up a form of exercise - the form of which would be entirely your choice
6. Go for a walk - lasting no longer than one hour (you must also practice social distancing)
7. Take regular breaks from whatever it is you're spending the day doing
8. Don't give yourself too much to do
9. Make the time to reflect on things in a positive light
10. Take deep breaths when you feel stressed or frustrated
11. Watch a film or a couple of episodes of your favourite TV show
12. Read a few pages of a book you're enjoying/think you'd enjoy
13. Set some time aside to do some chores - this ensures a tidy space in your home
14. Try something new
15. If you feel like you need to cry...then cry!
16. Listen to some music
17. Exercise the brain with a puzzle, jigsaw or board game
18. Write down one thing that you've been grateful for at the end of each day
19. Try keeping a journal - don't put pressure on yourself to keep it updated all the time, though
20. Get creative - you could take up anything from painting to writing poetry, give it a go!
