The Best True Crime Documentaries on (UK) Netflix Right Now

Netflix are really pulling out all the stops in term of true crime documentaries. From a single lengthy episode to a number of twisted mini-series, you'll be able to get your true crime fix all from one subscription. Whether you're currently in self-isolation or are simply looking for something to watch over the weekend, here are my top picks that will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem & Madness (2020)

One of the latest and most talked about mini series on Netflix right now, Tiger King will take you on a wild adventure. Following the infamous life of Joe Exotic, this show will open your mind the heartbreaking realities of keeping wild cats in cages in a greedy bid to make money.

Full of scandal and tremendous speculation throughout, this series swings from hints of comedy to elements of sadness to lashings of shock and surprise - you won't be able to resist watching right up to the bitter end.

Abducted in Plain Sight (2017)

This documentary has been widely talked about and for all the wrong reasons. Where it's highly informative, it's also exceptionally creepy. With a number of twists and turns that you never would have seen coming, this show looks back at the life of a family living in Idaho during the 1970's who have a sociopath for a neighbour.

Over time, this seemingly normal family man becomes obsessed with a 12 year-old-girl, and soon uses weird and twisted ways to manipulate her family to subconsciously overlook his disturbing behaviour and actions towards the innocent school girl. It's a must-watch that will have you at the edge of your seat from start to finish!

Evil Genius (2018)

A twisted story of betrayals and murder, this documentary delves into a crime involving pizza delivery man, Brian Wells who's life came to a messy end while in police custody for bank robbery. With a bomb locked around his neck, a cruel mechanism made by a mysterious criminal, poor Mr Wells was sent on a scavenger hunt to find the key that will unlock the bomb by a group of evil, manipulative individuals. This is a four-parter that will have you hooked right from the very start, and there's actually a conclusion to this one, so you'll get to find out exactly who was behind Brian's cold, heartless murder.

The Confession Tapes (2017)

Focusing on six murder cases where convictions were made based purely on confession tapes, this show will have you wondering whether those who were incarcerated for the homicides actually committed the crime. Claiming their confessions were coerced by the police during interview, we hear from those who were put behind bars for a crime they're trying to convince us they didn't commit.

We also see a number of detectives weighing in on the claims, intensely denying that they ever manipulated anyone to give a false confession. Cleverly shot and edited, this mini-series will have you wondering whether or not these murder cases really should be closed, purely based on the fact that they may have prosecuted the wrong person.

Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes (2019)

A murderous story, told by the notorious man himself through a series of tapes, this one will send shivers up your spine. As a four-part mini series, this show goes through the awful events that led up to the psychotic Bundy killing more than thirty innocent women in the 1970's. Over 30 years since his execution, these tapes will bring you into the mind of a cold, calculated murderer.
