Tips for Picking Your Own Pumpkins

Halloween is almost here and you know what that means? Pumpkin picking is well and truly underway! It's actually quite a new thing here in the UK but it's taken off exceptionally quickly. Just in case you've never been before and are hoping to go this year, or future years, for the first time, then I thought I'd give you a few hints and tips as to how you can go about picking the best pumpkin in the patch!
  1. Choose a pumpkin that's deep orange in colour
  2. Knock on the pumpkin, if it sounds hollow then it's nice and ripe
  3. Check the bottom on the pumpkin - it should be hard and flat
  4. The stem should be hard and firm - do not pick the pumpkin up using the stem
  5. Look for bruising - if it's bruised, don't buy it
  6. Go for a pumpkin with a smooth surface if you're wanting to carve it
